I figure if I keep asking this question often enough, somebody will come through just to shut me the hell up.

Any source for 20 round AK74 mags? The 30 rounders are just too clumsy for serious running-and-gunning.

Thanks all.

Russia did make 20 rounders for certain applications (both bakelite and plum colored)
but I have never seen one in the US, and I do not know of a 'source' for any from anywhere else either. Someone asked me that question last night, as he wanted to set up a shoulder sling rig underneath an overcoat (with Krinkov of course).

Tapco has them; 4 in a mag pouch for $50. They were made for the 'AMD' port-firing AK variant.

The mags that TAPCO has are for the AK-47 (7.62x39) and will not work in the AK-74 (5.45x39).

As already stated, there are no commercial sources for 20rd AK-74 magazines in the US.The only way to get them is to cut down a 30rd magazine, which is a fairly easy project.

Where did you get that rascal?

Easy for whom? Know anyone who wants to build some?

Thanks again for the responses.

The 3-pointed man of wisdom nailed it...I bought it at a gunshow, someone local made it.

EG mags are dirt cheap used, the people who make them learned by trial and error.

Go to the other forum and send HiCap a PM. I just ordered a couple of polymer 15 round 5.45 mags. $20 each shipped.

you can make your own 20 round mag, by taking a 30 round and cutting it down.....if you cut the last 1/2 inch or so off the bottom of the mag. then cut out the middle part, epoxy the bottom part to the remaining mag and cut like 3 coils off the spring you'll have a 20 round mag.

a 74 mag is like 5 bucks....the work involved doesn't take a engineering degree......and it sure beats paying 20 bucks for something you can do cheaper...... it's not rocket science to do it.

Any formula for how much to cut out?

Thanks much.

well if you load 21 rounds, that will bring the bottom of the follower right above the "witness hole" on the back spine.......if you cut about 1/2 off the bottom, I would cut a tad above the witness hole {1/4-1/2 inch or so)...that should bring you to about 20 rounds.....give or take a couple rounds, either way after you epoxy the bottom to it.

I would strongly advise wearing a dust mask, as when you start cutting it's going to send up some dust.

There are a lot of industrial waste, nucleur power plants, EPA Super Fund sites and chemical spill locations in Ohio.

As a result, problems like near sightedness and bug eyes are common. Not mention severe halitosis...

Anyway, as a result of all the congenital vision problems, spray and pray weapons are very popular.
