Anyone had recent experience on getting Form 1 approval?  I mailed paperwork and check on Nov. 20.  Check was cashed Dec. 3.  I have received nothing yet, as I assume they were inundated after Nov. 4.
Also, if your paperwork is rejected, do they refund your $$ and just ship your paperwork back, or do they provide a reason for the rejection?
 Thanks.

I don't know about the rest but I sent my first form 1 off on the 1st of Jan and they cashed the check on the 20th. I've heard it taking 12 weeks + lately, so I think you still have a month or more to wait.

Sent mine on Thursday 1-29-09 to WV w/ a money order.

The last time I submitted forms, I submitted a form 4 and a form 1 (SBR) on the same day.  The form 4 went to GA, the form 1 to WV.  The form 1 took a few extra weeks to get approved.  I think when you send the form 1 to WV they have to send the money order or check out to get cashed and wait for confirmation, seems like it might be an extra step that adds a little time.

3-12-09
I called today to check the status because a buddy of mine had a form 1 approved in under 2 months.  I'm not in the system yet.  They did log my form 1 in on 2-3-09 at the WV branch.  I figure I'm about half way there on this.

4-23-09
Called today, went pending on 4-10-09.

I have to wait till next monday, im going on a cruise.  A friend and i built a bulgy krink and added a can to it till the paper work is final.  When i come back we are sand blasting and adding flat black moly resin to her, then i'll post pix

I had the opportunity the other day to handle a SLR-107UR and loved it!!!  That will be my next rifle  But i want to add a CompM4 to this project first.

Edit: Vote here plz - LINK

Unfortunately I have to wait til the stamp comes back, I ordered the regular shorty barrelled krink kit. It's over at Elk River waiting on Hector to get to work on it but I won't be able to pick it up for another 2 months at least.

The ATF did cash the check for the 5.45 and the 107Ur though

Great, it looks like all the new people they hired when they moved to WV have learned that government work means not having to work.

Before they moved times were about 90 days, when they moved most of the people didn't want to move with the office so they hired new workers and times dropped to 30 days. Now it's back to the same old crap.

Winter is their busy season, typically runs 3 months, as you move into the middle of the year that can drop to as low as 1 month

Mailed my Form 4 yesterday via Certified USPS.  Had a USPS money order as well and this went to the address in WV, which I understand the NFA branch was only moved there somewhat recently.  The seller mailed out the Form 4 he filled out on January 9th and he got approval to transfer it locally on April 16th.  This is my first NFA and I have a feeling this will be the longest few months ever.  It's like waiting for Christmas.  I'm going to try and just forget about it until the stamp shows up in the mail.  Anybody know what the actual phone number is so I can call them and hassle them in a month or two?

Form 4 done through a  trust was mailed the last week of January 09
ATF cashed my check within a week on Feb 1st.
Went to a pending status on April 7th.
Approved on May 7th.
I was told to allow the examiner 20 days to mail it. In a follow up call I was told that they mail them the day after approval.
Bottom line is I got my Krink!

I am not a criminal by any means but I am curious ...How do they conduct a background check anyway? Do they show up one day asking your neighbors if they have a problem with a short barrel rifle owner next door or what? I like to keep a low profile to help prevent burglers etc and feel they would make me a target and put me on the map as far as the neighbors go if they do it that way...anyone? Or do they just look you up and see the worst record you have is the occasional traffic ticket and approve and move on?

they do not inform or ask your neighbors.

If I'm not mistaken the background merely consists of a records check through NCIC.  If there is a record then I'm sure they will research that to make sure it does not disqaulify you to own a firearm.

I got some approved form ones back a few weeks ago. It took right at three months. Three different items: 107UR, Spikes AR receiver, and Saiga 12. I was not able to forget about them either. After a month I stared checking the mail every day hoping they would be there. The first time I did form ones was about two years ago. It too 28 days back then for two items to come back approved.

Good God, I dream about getting a form back from those guys in 3 months.  4 to 5 months (or longer) has been the norm lately.  Mine was sent April 27th, pending June 18th and I still have nothing but a gap in my savings account to show for it.
