When working with a timer, what's considered a 'good' draw/shoot time out of a L1 retention holster from the beep?

1.5 seconds or less

Last weekend I was around the 1.8 sec average with acceptable accuracy. Safariland ALS using my battle belt.

1.4-1.7 is about where I'm at with some outliers (both good and bad). I find I'm no slower or faster coming out of a Safariland ALS compared to a passive retention holster.
This would be for a very close shot where I dont need to get a perfect sight picture, let's call it within seven yds. ETA that's just what I'm capable of, it's not to say it's "good" necessarily. |

1.8 with a alpha hit at 10 yds. Not great, not terrible. Safriland ALS holster on a belt

One stage for our quals for POST is 2 rds on target in under 2 seconds from holster. So definitely sub 2s, probably sub 1.5.
I'll measure it next time I qual or hit the range to see what I'm at for first shot...I really need to start using my timer more. |

Avg. 1.3, 7yd, -0 zone hit, or avg. .80 at 3yd, from the hip. ALS/G19.

I want to say the last couple of competitions I've been to, where retention/duty holsters are the expected, there were a couple of stages where you were penalized if you're first shot didn't break by 1.5 seconds. The added time was equal to your first shot. So if it took you 1.6 seconds, you had 1.6 seconds added to your final score.

To pass firearms training in my agency’s (large metro agency) police academy, we require recruits to get the gun out of the holster within 1.25 seconds, and be able to draw and put a round on target at 5yds within 1.5 seconds using a Safariland Level 3 holster.

I’m about 1.2 warmed up but shot competition for years.
I’m happy sub 1.8 for anything, concealment, open, etc |

.8 out of a safariland level 2 als, glock 19 MOS RMR. Shot was placed center mass in the 9 ring at 15 feet. I was happy with that.

Paul Howe's standards are 1.7 SEC at 7 yards (essentially an A-Zone hit). 1.5 SEC is considered "Advanced" |

Back when I was doing qualifications every year, I was able to draw from a Safariland Level 3 holster, get a flash sight picture, and put two shots center mass at 3 yards in less than 2 seconds with a Glock 22.

Bill Rogers indicates a 1.25 to 1.5 sec time is good, depending on the level of security devices. Since he invented the modern retention holsters I'd take that as gospel.

Since this thread was resurrected, I will add my two cents. My average is 1.9 secs with A-zone hits using a Glock 19 from a Safariland ALS. I know that sucks and I am working to improve. The good news is that I am better than I used to be.

Sounds like NRA “TPC.” It’s like 3 gun using duty guns and gear. They do a lot of 1st shot par time stages. The penalties are also 2 and 4 seconds for B/C hits, with 2 10 second misses and a 40 second FTE for a skipped target. You can’t outrun C hits and a FTE will ruin a whole day. |
