This would be a mixed up but mainly vehicle range. Area I have set aside for this is approximately 200' long and 80-100' wide.

The long side is all bermed with a 8' foot earth berm 3-4' thick. The berm continues in a bit of an upside down "L" fashion.

Mid way down the long berm is a small target rack for distance targets (419 yards) that are visible from another part of the range- but obviously wouldn't be used if we are using the vehicle range.

What all would you want to see in a dedicated vehicle range? I have three vans now, two are burnt from previous classes (nothing funnier than shooting targets near a burning van with NV at 3am).  I'm thinking of finding 2-4 more vehicles in semi working'ish order to complete the range.

The plan is to leave it where people could drive there own vehicles down to this range also- some gravel will be added this summer when it's drier.

So training drives the creation and set up of the range itself. I'm trying to think through exercises and training relating to around vehicles in order to design/set up the range correctly. What skills would you want to be able to practice on a vehicle range?

Looking for any insight on what and how to do it.

Pic might give a little better idea of what I have to work with. On the right side where the grass it very tall is the start of a drainage ditch that runs along a gravel road just to the right of the drainage ditch.

You could drive the gravel road and shoot targets up to about 30 yards away.

The plan is to gravel some of the grassy areas near the wrecks you see there so that smaller vehicles could drive around in there most of the year without worry about getting stuck.

Ideas?

So obviously exiting a vehicle, shooting with a person in the passenger side, using the vehicle for "cover" and concealment, movement around the vehicle, shooting into a vehicle via the windshield both closer range and also at distance (deflection and spatial differences, etc), etc.

What other DRILLS and training would you want to do around vehicles?  I am designing the range around those thoughts.

Working there a little this weekend I think I'm going to slightly smooth a small ditch area also. This will give the ability for people to attempt to drive out of a situation via driving through a small ditch. Going to find a couple of the little concrete parking stops and put them somewhere there also. Avoiding contact in your vehicle might involve driving over some things like that, driving through some ditches, etc. Be good for people to able to practice that if they want to, some folks have never seen what their car or truck can and will drive over or through if needed.

Yeah it's always amazing to me these people with super tricked out mega trucks that turn a corner where a tiny bump is and the car is barely moving while they inch over the little bump. What the hell did you buy the huge truck for then? LOL.   We had a Corolla for about a decade that I drove all over the US to training events. I can't tell you how many times I was told "your little car ain't gonna make it up there"- only to get there just fine. Never had ANY frame or suspension issues, great little car. It's just like having a nice gun but not knowing how to handle it worth a damn- you got to know how to drive LOL.

The ditch I'm talking about isn't very steep so it's a little iffy. I have plenty of heavy equipment there I can smooth things a bit and kill some of the angle, that's probably what I'll do.
