After using the laser trainer (Smokeless Range 2.0) at my local shooting range (Premier Shooting, West Chester, OH), I was looking for a less costly alternative and something more sophisticated than the phone apps.

I found a software that is free, runs on a PC hooked up to a projector and gets the shot indication via a cheap webcam. Got some 9mm laser cartridges on Amazon (about $40 each), set it all up in the basement and had a blast "shooting". There are no self-defense scenarios, but many other options. My son and I keep going back to the dropping targets (5 that you can shoot at after the traffic light turns green) - managed to get them all in 1.36 seconds :-)

The software can be downloaded here Project Ares

That looks a lot like some expensive laser trainers I've tried.  Thanks for posting!
