I ordered 40 rounds of .338 Lapua 285 Grain BTHP Hornady Match ammo to try after seeing it on 2 youtube videos.

If they work ill be fine.  If not what else can I look at?

I will be going out to at least 1000 yards.  I will go further if I can find a place to shoot it

It shouldn't. It's easy to load for and hard to screw up. Only the slowest powders are worth a damn for the huge case and they're so bulky you can't double charge if you wanted to. Keep all other powders off the bench when working with it. A couple grains overcharge even matters less since you're starting with around 100 grains of powder.

When I had mine, I shot 285 ELD-M with H1000. Accurate at hell. Best to reload. Commercial ammo is very expensive. Had to get away from big boomers so was sad selling it. It’s a sweet rifle.

Reload. Period. End of story. I remember when I bought mine ammo was $120+/box. Now it can be had for $80-ish? You can reload better for a lower price.

250s or 300s. Dont hunt with Bergers, AMax, ELDs, or some weakass target round. There are a lot of good target bullets out there, though that do what they billed to do. Premium hunting bullets will perform similarly.

7828 for 250s and lighter.  Retumbo for anything larger.

H1000 is a compromise powder better suited for a 300WM- leave that crap on the shelf. It's a waste that doesn't perform as well as its peers IMO.

Nosler brass has worked well for me. I just bought surplus Lapua brass for $79.99 per 100 (Thats an incredible steal BTW).

WLRM primers.

My current load is a Nosler 300gr AB on top of Retumbo. I've shot 250s, and I don't dislike them, they are not my preferred- I've begun to standardize all my loads and components for my guns for lower costs and simplicity.

97.0 grs of RL33 with a 285 Hornady ELD.  I never chronoed it but 5 rounds at 600 yards into a 3 1/2" group out of Savage is good enough for me.

Unfortunately, i didn't even shoot the rifle this year.
