Got a rail for the bottom of my chassis fore-end to mount a bi-pod. The bipod has a QD mount, so I can readily change it's position.

Is there any "rule of thumb" for where to mount it?

If I put it all the way forward on the rail, the legs will be right under the brake when folded (and actually stick out a little if I recall correctly).

Do some people use the weight of the bipod to help balance the rifle, and thus the position is dictated by the rest of the rifle build?

I was going to put the legs so they end where the barrel ends and the brake begins, but wasnt sure if there was some secret out there I'm not aware of.

Thanks

I run mine as far frontward as possible, helps make the rifle more stable when bagged under the stock...

Got the rail mounted and the bipod on. Heres a couple pics. Looks okay where it is I think.

Edit: Rail is from MDT Technologies. Covers 4 M-Lok slots and has a spot for a QD swivel to connect to.

I would move it to the front of the hand guard...it will work better as a bipod...

this is worth a look, it explains it...

I agree, push it as far forward as possible.

The rail is mounted as far forward as I can. The stud that's there is in a regular hole, so even if I remove it, the rail cant shift forward.

I'll try bumping the rail up another few slots. Just dont really want it under the brake when shooting (can always remove it all together if needed since it has a QD mount)

The further forward, the more you can more precisely control muzzle direction.  IE, your end moves more than the muzzle does.

Move it as far forward as possible, your brake won't do anything to your bipod.

Correct, it's a Bobro Gen 3 / Type 3 / series 3 (not sure exactly what they call it) bipod, has the self-adjusting QD mount, with the tilt function (no pan).

Got it off the EE here from another member.

closer to the muzzle = more stable
closer to the trigger = more agile
