My 700 has an X-Mark Pro in it currently. It's been a decent trigger, but lately it feels a bit inconsistent in the pull weight. Every so often it feels like it pulls around 5lbs instead of 3.5 or so. It has a lot of rounds on it, so it's probably due to be replaced anyway. What is a good all-around trigger for a precision 700? I was thinking Timney, but I'm open to anything. Doesn't need to be fancy, just a decent single stage that uses the factory style safety and pulls around 3lbs or so, no less.

Thanks for the replies. I've been looking around a bit and I'm leaning toward the TriggerTech at the moment.

I use a Trigger Tech Special and it’s a fantastic trigger.

My brother has a TriggerTech in his 700 and it is really nice to shoot, I'd get one without hesitation if I was buying one for myself.

The Timney 510 is a very good trigger and not overly expensive. I use a couple on match rifles. The Trigger Tech Special is good too. Even the Primary is good. All better than the factory triggers especially recent ones.

I have the Jewell trigger in mine. Very happy with it.

Everyone is going to come in here and tell you about what they have, and recommend that.
The reality is, literally any aftermarket trigger is going to be miles better than a factory 700 trigger when you're shooting at 3lb weights. I can't think of one that wouldn't be both crisp and reliable at that poundage. Trigger Techs (namely the special) will probably be the most repeatable, due to it's sear design, but we're splitting major hairs there. I've used them all...Timney, Jewell, TT, Bix, Flavio, Jard, Rifle Basix etc. At 3lbs, it just doesn't matter IMO. They really start to separate themselves when they're set down low. Edit: For someone like yourself, the TT might be the most ideal because of the adjustment factor. It's external, but it's also just one adjustment 'pull weight'. Others might view that as a negative in some scenarios, but they're about as simple and reslient as 700 triggers come. The pull probably won't be much different than another aftermarket trigger (properly adjusted) at 3lbs though. |

I have a Jewell in my Remington 40-X. It was literally a drop-in replacement.
I have Anschutz in my other bolt rifles - both centerfire and rimfire. |

Timney has been very good to me. Lots of time on the market. Proven. I have owned two of them.
I would estimate that I put more rounds through my 700 in one sitting than most do in a lifetime. I used to roll with two 700s so I could keep shooting while the other barrel cooled. I am honestly trying to shoot out my barrel, but the damn thing remains tight. I long for an excuse to buy an expensive stainless hand lapped barrel. It isn't Friday yet, and I hope that Bergara isn't hanging on my LGS wall the next time I roll by. I would probably swap my Timney into the Bergara and sell the Remington with the Bergara trigger. |

Some night stand reading for you... Some of the new triggers are great but some are dirt sensitive. Whatever you select, try to get familiar with the maintenance so you can keep it running. |

Im late to the party as usual but I came here to post that rifle basix is a damn good trigger for the money. I have the 8 to 16oz version in my 300 ultra mag and I LOVE IT!

Jewell, it was super easy to get it adjusted to a very light pull weight.

I run trigger tech special in mine but will be updating to the 2 stage when they release. Dont know why but I seem to prefer a 2 stage trigger. Especially one with a light 2nd stage.
Love my ssa-e triggers for example. |
