Looking for recommendations on a 22 that will shoot, shorts , longs and 22 quiets. Budget is around 300.

I was looking a stainless 10/22 . I also like the lever guns.

Has to be able to take a scope.

Your best bet to shoot all three (short, long, and long rifle) will be a tube magazine rifle or an old out of production Remington - which would be a great choice if the gun hasn't been abused.

A Marlin 39A or a Henry will get you into a lever action.

Don't be afraid to spend more than $300 for a good rifle, the buyer's remorse will disappear quickly and you'll have a gun for a lifetime.

I love the Henry's, can a scope be put on them?

Henry H001...   Pop got me on for Christmas close to 20 years ago...   I neglected it because it wasn't tacticool!!

Then around 10 years ago, I dug it out of the safe and decided I'd shoot it...  Now it goes every time I burn powder. One of the best 22s ever made IMO. I hate that all those years I was missing out, because I was going thru a "everything has to be black, have rails, and 30 round magazines" stage...  Glad I'm over that shit!

Shorts, long, long rifle...  Eats everything. And is damn accurate.

No finer 22 that can shoot EVERY make and size of 22 rimfire ammo than a Marlin 39 lever gun. If you can find a good used gun, but more than likely you will pay more than $300. But you will never regret owning one. I have a mid 60s iteration that has seen at least 15-20,000 rounds through it, and it still shoots minute of squirrel head at 40-50 yards. And they were made for scope from very early on. Longest continuous production gun in history IIRC. Well worth it to go on a search for one. Every pawn shop, gun store, gun show within 200 miles. Its a trek well worth the reward.

Barring that, I would be looking for a similar era Marlin or Remington bolt action with a tubular magazine for the higher capacity and no mags to lose.

Last but not least, if I had no more room in my budget, Marlin 782 tube fed bolt action. (782 might be the 22 Mag version, but I think the 783 is the Magnum model I had back in the day).

I have a Henry Evil Roy that the rents got me when I graduated fire academy, best gun ever out to 50 yards with open sights.  Harder to scope because of the small receiver grooves but can be done.

Can you actually get 22short and 22 longs and why would you bother.  Everything I see for sale is 22 long rifle, which is different than either of the other two.

I've never seen either for sale in my local retail outlets.  I suppose you can get ajust about anything on the internet but,... why?

Why compromise your selection of a firearm to only those which can handle such oddball cartridges?

.22 shorts are nice in tube fed rifles.  My Winchester M72 will hold 28 +1 shorts.  I like the CCI 27 gr. HP's.  Not really any other reason to bother with them, I guess, but I shot a lot of them when I was young so for me the nostalgia is there.

Volquartson used to make a kit that would allow the 10/22 to shoot shorts, came with a modified magazine.

What I'd really like to see are more .22 magnum subsonic rounds and rifles like the Vudoo .22 chambered in .22 mag.

A 1-9 twist Vudoo in .22 mag. shooting subsonic 60 grain jacketed bullets/highly frangible bullets would be great.

I will mostly be using 22 quiets out of it for pest control in the middle of the city.

A Marlin 39 or Henry lever action, or a pump action like the old gallery guns feed shorts, longs or LR. The Rossi model 63SA is a fun gun, and If it was imported during the time when Interarms was in business, could be fired as fast as a semi-auto by holding the trigger back, and limited only by how fast you can operate the slide.

I have an older, 70's model that is easily my most enjoyable rifle to shoot! Butter smooth action, long barrel great iron sights and very accurate.

I'd look at the Henry h001. I have one that I threaded and chopped the mag tube. It's a blast to shoot.

Ruger 10/22 break down, polly buffer (kodd is good), quality extractor, decent reddot sight, trigger and mag release upgrades.
This the best. https://tigerrockinc.com/V-Block-Stabilizer-Ruger-10-22
The tension screw male all the diff!
Cci blazer 40grn the 500! Bulk pack! Not the 525 pack! Pop critterers all night long!

Just make shure that bolt action is as quiet as you can. polish up the internal receiver, blah blah blah!
Square bolt face, polish the firing pin.

Mine is stupid stupid quiet!  Rounds hitting target os louder than the weapons action.
Mine likes a 50/50 of progold and rem oil. Qtipped on friction areas, beech runs hard!

Pew pew pew!

I have an Iver Johnson levergun made by Erma of West Germany. It’s the predecessor of the Henry, identical as far as I can tell.  My IJ wears Henry wood and it was a direct bolt on.

Anyway, it’s loaded with CCI CB caps and reserved for shooting varmints around the yard.  The shorts feed perfectly, and it’s as quiet as a pellet gun.

I have my brand new CZ 457 Varmint upstairs waiting to get it out and get shot.

Put an Area 19 picatinny rail on it with a Nikon Black FX, FFP 4-16x50 in Vortex rings on it.

Remington still makes the classic 552, tube fed semi-auto that shoots shorts, long and long rifle interchangeably.  But, they are pricey, close to $600 for a new one, if you can find it.  A good used one will be about the same, as best I can tell.

Mine is an early production from the late 1950s.  Very accurate for an auroloader.  I’ve never shot anything but .22lr in it, though.

I now want one in 45-70 lol.

The action is so smooth. I have never owned a lever gun but have shot alot of them. This Henry is great.

I've been shooting cci cb in the back yard. Cycles without fail. Super quiet. My pellet gun is louder.

You will love Shorts. holds more rounds and quiet out of my Winchester 06.
