I tried a search but not a lot came up for me. I want a suppressor cover and am wondering what the shooters here are using. It looks like Armageddon Gear and Cole-TAC are well regarded. As for the sun shade, how necessary are they? Do they help all the time, or only when the sun is in a certain position relative to the shooter?

I like the Rifles Only gear. You can get both heat and mirage abatement depending on need/use case. Big variety of finishes.

On the question of sun shades, I usually put them on and leave them on. It may only really "help" in certain situations, but IMHO it never hurts.

Obligatory rifle porn...

I like Cole-tac and Armageddon are nice too for the covers.   I dont run a sun shade, but it can help at times.

The shade may make fitting the rifle in your safe a pain but like the others, install it and leave it there. The first time you've got the need for one you don't want to have to stop to install it. I run sunshades and ARD's on most of my long range guns. Sunshade length is something to consider but it's not usually something where there's a big (or any) selection choice. You'll notice that below the scopes with sunshades on them end up about the same length despite the big difference in sunshade length. Scopes vary in length which is why my USO + Sunshade is a good 2" longer than my Vortex R2's despite the Vortex sunshades being about twice as long as the USO sunshade/ARD.

Obligatory rifle porn. US Optics SN3 3.8-22x56 with a 2" sunshade/ARD on Deadpool. It's more of an ARD than a sunshade but does both very well.

Compare to ~4" sunshades w/o ARD's on my Vortex R2's.

Put it on and leave it on.

I went with Rifles Only Suppressor Covers.  Got mine through Triad Tactical as they had other items I wanted at the time I bought it.

I leave mine on all the time now.  The cover's outer cover has sometimes slipped a bit because I haven't found the best way to secure it yet over long shooting strings.

The advantages become very, very apparent if you've ever shot something like a precision rifle stage.  Shooting with a buddy off a VTAC with precision guns, with something like 2 rounds and 3 different shooting positions for time, I found that not having a cover meant that by the last shots, I was starting to see mirage.  Run it a couple times and the can is hot enough you can only see mirage.

I bought a cover right after doing those shooting drills and so I'd have it before a precision match.  They work great.  It also means you can snug it back down without gloves if the temp changes start to loosen the can (assuming direct thread).
