Anyone used a tripod for Precision Rifle? I've read about the RRS but can't drop that kinda money on a tripod right now. Any thoughts on the Predator Tactics Deadeye Tripod System? How would it compare to the Nightstalker or the Shadowtech Pig 0311? These are the three that I've narrowed my search down to at this point. I'll hang up and listen...

I am not a competitive shooter, but I do use a tripod for shooting once in a while..with that said, I have had great results with this newer carbon fiber tripod..it has zero issues holding my 16 pd long range hunting rifle... and the price is stupid cheap for what you get...130 bucks....out of stock now, but they will be back in stock soon..the same company makes a slightly lighter rated version as well...

This looks like the same tripod in orange or blue for 120 bucks..

I've seen this one in the past. I definitely like the idea of carbon fiber. What mount do you use?

snowrider:  Are you clamping the rifle onto the tripod or simply resting it?  If clamping, what device do you use?

I run the PiG 03-11 tripod with a Pig Saddle when hunting with my LMT MWS and couldn’t be more pleased with it.  Nice kit.

Check out the  tripod from Caldwell, precision target shooting rest.
It's only for bench or prone use and it's heavy.
It's like a miniature 240 tripod.price is pretty good too.about 65 bucks.
I just got one and I've not shot off it yet but it appears to be sturdy.

I'm interested in this setup as well. Do you feel like it's easy to keep the sights on target after the recoil? Or do you feel any bounce with it?

Most of my shots are single with no follow up necessary but I feel the system is fairly stable.  It does jump on you a bit but through some technique you can certainly control it.   I also run a SunwayFoto XB44 ball head.  Shooting off a tripod is a bit of an art and I utilize a sling to help stabilize the rifle when shooting from this rig.

Just started a build of one - or more a re-purpose & re-spray to cover the bare aluminium finish

I got a MANFROTTO 055 model (several variants of the 055 around) for cheap on Ebay
Added the MANFROTTO pistol grip style head - bought post-lockdown, on EbaySpain
Using a dedicated Pig Saddle which I bought mid-2019

….at this rate I will be lucky to have range time with it this side of New Year

I use the Swiss-arca head that came on the tripod, it clamps to a Swiss-arca rail on my rifle...My chassis came with the rail machined in, but on other rifles we have just installed one...

Here is a m-loc to swiss Arca rail that can bolt right on an m-loc hand guard, It wouldn't be hard to attach to any stock...lots of places are making them now..or do as my buddy did and just bought a cheap 6" Swiss-Arca rail off amazon for a few bucks and screwed it on to his hand guard using m-lock screw kit...

Take a look at the Wrecking Ball from Vault Outdoors. It is fairly new, so not many reviews yet, but it looks like it might be the ticket. I ordered the package the other day, but have not gotten a shipping notice yet. Uses the same tripod as the Pig Saddle 0311 with a newly designed ballhead.

Setup your Wrecking Ball

I am a photographer and have several tripods (Manfrotto 055 and a Gitzo carbon fiber, among others). These are not as sturdy as RRS tripods, but not nearly as expensive either. I have used them for shooting but they are not as stable as I would like. Mostly due to the ballheads. I feel like you need a very sturdy ballhead for good stability. Something like the RRS BH 55 or maybe the BH 40. Or a leveling base. Something like these.

I have no experience with the Pig Saddle, but it looks sturdy as well. It seems that it would benefit from a ballhead also.

I did medium format photogaragy in a different life, I bought a Gitzo tele studdex which I still have, new they're too expensive but used they're affordable, people who buy them them take care of them.   I had a 20# 4x5 camera which it held with no issues at all.  Now I have a manfrotto 322 rc2 head on it.

Gitzo

That wrecking ball looks like it could be really good. Please post an update once you get yours and give a little review of it.

Man the guys over at SnipersHide are RRS or bust it seems. It seems apparent that RRS is the gold standard but no way I can justify that right now.

Big thread over there on the Innorel RT-90C which appears to be a very close copy of Two Vets and the PVA Comp 40. Runs about $300 and solid as a rock, heavy as one too about 6.5 lbs.

I took a middle of the road option, the RRS Anvil 30 ball head on a pig-saddle (or slik) tripod.  The tripod is plenty steady and the Anvil ballhead is really sturdy and really smooth.

I also use the Neewer tripod. Great option for a budget tripod.  I have swiss arca to mlok adapters on my rifles.
