Posted in reloading section also.
So I traded some .223 for some .308 rounds.
The .308's are factory Federal cartridges if that helps.
Problem is they don't weigh the same as my 150 grain .308 fully assembled cartridges (377.5 gr), with an OAL of 2.720"
These are fully loaded cartridges and I'd rather not pull the bullet to figure out the bullet weight.
They weigh on average 400 grains with an OAL of 2.810".
Any ideas on what the actual bullet weight is, or should I just pull one and confirm?

My 168 grain loads are below that with 44 grains of powder. Most likely 180s but you will need to pull at least one.

There is no way to make a determination like this safely by weighing the assembled state, there are just way too many tolerance stack ups with all the components.

If you don't trust them, you'll have to pull and weigh at a minimum, though if I didn't load it myself I pull and toss the powder and primers anyway.

Edit: if you're absolutely sure that these are factory rounds, you could pull and check. So long as you're sure you have characterized what you have, it's up to you to determine if you're comfortable shooting them.

I will probably pull one and weigh it just to be safe.
Just wanted some thoughts on this.
ETA: Confirmed these are 175 gr SMK
Sorry for the time waste.
