My company has a recognition system where you can earn points for "above and beyond" type work.  I can redeem those points for everything from tablets to purses to night vision scopes to...spotting scopes.  

I know that like a scope, a spotting scope is only as good as the glass you put in it.  What do you consider the minimum magnification for spotting hits on steel at 1000 yards?  I can get this scope basically "for points":

Unless you can take one out and actually look through it, I would pass.
Scopes that look good in the store can have a haze at longer distances or have a difficult time actually seeing the target.
Personally, I would spend the points on a good tripod and buy a better scope.

Anyone tried the Leupold Gold Ring 60mm?  Nice and compact.  I've never owned a spotter and have been looking at these on ebay.
