New Manners mini chassis supplied front action screw is binding the bolt, barely sticking through.    How do shorten it?

Add a washer under the head. Or, thread on a nut, file or grind and de-burr, remove nut to ensure threads are straight.

This.  Or if you have one, thread on the appropriate die before going to the file.  The die will recut the threads as it is removed.  Gives a better finish to the threads IMHO.

Thank you, done.  Put 2 nuts  on  it and tightened in a vice and just used a hand file.  Needed .045 taken off and fits perfect.

Yep, and my buddy told me to use 2 nuts (one as a jam nut) so the bolt doesn't turn when you file it

I've done a ton with just a dremel it's really not that hard.

I dress them down on a grinder. You could use a file.

Chuck the head in a vise. Chuck a sanding roll onto your drill. Buzz off threads. masking tape over the parts you don't want to harm helps.

I've done this a dozen times.

Grind the majority of it, when you're close use a good file.

I thread on a nut set it on the tool rest while grinding . Put a wrench in the head and turn while grinding the edge gives it a nice even look.

I like to bite them off.

I actually chipped a tooth once doing that so now I trim it close with a dremel cut off disk and fine tune it with a 3M Roloc disc attached to an angle grinder.  Touch up the shiny metal with some cold blue paste and voila!

A file may not touch a hardened screw.

Use a stone 'file.'

Guys a simple tap and die set is worth it’s weight in gold.
Chasing outer threads after shorting a screw or cleaning inner threads that are gunked up. Also if you start to cross thread and catch it quick you can align the threads back.

Ironically in rarely use my set to create new thread.
