I put my savage up for sale to fund an RPR 338. If it doesn’t sell, no big deal. May keep it. Shoots great. Have a great load developed for it. These do go fast. 2 place I found them, sold out before I could call them. Am in no hurry. Cheapest I found was $1549.00 . Others were $1629.00. Did find some price gougers above $1700. Enjoy your rifle. Let’s see a range report.

I was planning on getting a Savage at dome poiny, but I think Ruger will get my money now.

I'm looking forward to reports on how they perform.

Hope to squeeze out next weekend but not sure. Want to get at least 50 rounds through it to break in the barrel. Have about 40 rounds developed for the savage that I hope will work in the RPR. Load development will tell the tale.

Mine came in yesterday. This rifle is built well. Very smooth bolt action.

I bought one on 11/21/18 but haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet. I ordered 120 rounds of Hornady ELD Match 285 gn from the Black Friday special at PSA. I will use that brass to reload. I will be putting a Vortex Gen2 Razor 4.5-27 on top. I’ll shoot some rounds past my LabRadar as I am sighting it in to check the speed. Biggest holdup now is waiting for PSA to deliver the ammo but I won’t complain too much given the great price they had.

How much per round on the ammo you purchased on sale? I reload and have my break in rounds and ladder tests ready to go. My bipod I had on my savage 338 won’t work in this rifle so researching for another one. Am cringing at the price for a atlas but after looking at other ones, keep coming back to an atlas.

The sale price was $54.99 for a box of 20 so $2.75 per round. I also reload but aren't set up for 338 Lapua yet. I will use this ammo for break in and for brass supply. Biggest complaint I have with PSA is how long it takes to receive orders. I actually ordered the ammo before I bought the rifle. I refuse to pay $4 or $5 per shot and that is what has kept me away from this caliber in the past.
I put an Atlas bipod on mine.

I did get my bipod from the savage to finally work but still looking at an atlas. Will have to wait until Xmas is over though. If you haven’t checked your bullets to the lands yet, better do it. Am seeing a good size difference from my savage. Plus the magazine max coal is just enough for the rounds I still have from the savage. Should have my scope mounted tomorrow so hope to hit the range by Sunday. Took the front hand guard off to oil the barrel. Screws seemed a little loose. Haven’t checked the rail mounts yet but will loctite them tomorrow also. The bolt is so smooth compared to my savage.

Give it time, they may come down

I remember when the 308s were going for$1200 and now you can easily get them for $899, maybe cheaper

Rail screws were not as tight as I hoped for. Just a little pressure and came loose. Just loctite them down and scope is finally mounted. Just hoping for good weather sunday but calling for snow.

When you start reloading you need to try these little guys out. They’re outstanding.

I do reload. Really like the Hornady 285 ELD-M. Was in the process of trying out the new Hornady 270 ELD-X but back surgery put that on hold. Have them loaded and ready to do the ladder test. Hoping they shoot good out of the RPR. Seeing the video on this rifle from Hornady that stated the furthest target hit was 2520 yards with the 285 ELD-M, will probably stay where I’m at for now. Thanks for the info.

Got out to the range today. Fired 46 rounds. No way could I do that with my savage 338 I sold to fund this rifle. The weight of this rifle (15 lbs) really helps tame the recoil. Made up some 250 grain rounds to break in the barrel. Shot 10 rounds. It was so accurate with these that I didn't finish the other 15 rounds I had plan to do. Wanted to see if I could shoot the same load as the savage so I worked up to get to 89.8 gr of H-1000. 28 degrees with a 5 MPH wind. Labradar to chrono. Labradar doesn't like it cold so some issues recording.
88.3 gr H-1000   2692.04 fps avg (2 shots recorded out of 3)
88.6 gr H-1000   2692.26 fps avg (2 shots recorded out of 3)
88.9 gr H-1000   2719.46 fps avg (1 shot recorded out of 3)
89.2 gr H-1000   2720.87 fps avg (1 shot recorded out of 3)
89.5 gr H-1000   No recording (yeah, i'm pissed)  Labradar doesn't like it this cold. Had this issue last winter
89.8 gr H-1000   2733.07 fps avg (3 shots recorded out of 3 shots) This is the load I had for the Savage 338LM FCP

Got it zero'd @100 yards with some more shooting. Did some nice cloverleafs. Still plan on tweaking some more. The 89.5 was shooting at 2780 fps out of the savage but that was around 70 degrees. Do have a heavier load I developed for the savage that I will try in the spring but not now. Was able to dial 1 mile with my Burris XTR II 4-20x50 on the savage with this load. Will have to put my zero stop on the scope and see if I can still be able to dial in to 1 mile. The RPR 338 comes with a 30 MOA rail. I had a 20 MOA setup on the savage. Shouldn't be a problem dialing 1 mile but will check it after I set my zero stop. I wouldn't want to hump this rifle due to its weight but this rifle is sweet on the bench. With scope and ammo, guessing its around 17 lbs. Am glad I sold my savage to fund this rifle. The savage is a sweet rifle but the recoil is a bit stout compared to the RPR. I could never shoot 46 rounds with the savage without shoulder fatigue. Do not have any with the RPR after 46 rounds. If your on the fence buying this rifle, my suggestion is jump on it. You will not be disappointed!

My ammo was delivered last night so I took my rifle to the farm today to shoot for first time. I shot 25 rounds total. Recoil isn’t as bad as I expected. I had never shot anything bigger than a 300 Win Mag hunting rifle. It didn’t take long to zero the scope but I enjoyed shooting this rifle. I am using Hornady ELD Match 285 grain and average speed on my LabRadar was 2765.
Anybody know the projectile length for the ammo I am using? I am having trouble finding that information and need it for ballistic program

Use your calipers to get that info. Not listed anywhere. Measure 10 and do a average. What powder are you using? Something tells me I can push this a bit more. Come spring, will see for sure. Had it above 2800 fps on the savage. Will see how the RPR does.

All I have is Hornady factory loaded ammo and I really don't want to pull one.

1.745 is what is in my ballistic calculator. StrelokPro is what I use.

Well, if anyone was wondering, according to the new American Rifleman the magazines are 3.850 CIP.  Nice.
