Just ordered a Ruger Precision bolt action in 22lr. Scope will be a 3x9x40, 1" tube. Will medium rings  provide the clearance needed? This my first precision type rifle and I'm curious about  the stock adjustments and what's ideal. Whole lot to learn on this entry level set-up.

Thank you for the insight.

It's not so much what height rings will "accomodate the scope" on your rifle, but moreso what the comb height of your rifle's stock is, the style of shooting you intend on engaging in, and where the scope needs to be located fore and aft to allow you the correct eye relief.

Those listed factors do matter, but height above bore should be kept as low as possible to minimize cant error.  The RPR .22LR has adjustable stock height, so it will be easy to set it for cheek weld that matches a scope that is low over bore.

The RPR also has a 30 MOA top rail.  Medium rings won't work.

And if you want precision, don’t waste time with a 3-9. Something with more magnification and features will work better.

As a lot of 22 is shot inside 100 yards, a lot of the typical 3-9 scopes don’t have focus adjustment for closer range. Most practice and load testing for 22’s is done at 50 yards.

Trying to shoot precision while handicapping yourself with an inappropriate optic will be frustrating
