Precision .223 AR , 20” barrel
Currently running a standard forged upper, looking to upgrade.
Which upper receiver would you choose?

Edit:  looking for stripped upper receiver suggestions.
Sorry for the confusion.

Does anyone sell a factory upper with a Krieger Barrel? If so, that one.

Oops... I should’ve been more specific:

I’m looking for stripped upper receiver recommendations.
I already have a 20” Krieger intended for it.
Sorry for the confusion

I am partial to BCM blems as they have an undersized throat where the barrel slips in very solid lock up.....60 bucks for a stripped upper and the upper assembly kit.

Vltor Mur 1A, tight fit and beefier than a standard forged receiver.

I suggest you buy a cheap upper, even a blem and a receiver face truing tool from Brownell's. You'll end up with a straight upper for not much money and have the tool in your box from now on.

Blems can be found from $40.00 to $50.00 stripped. Areo Precision usually has some.

LaRue Stealth Upper/Handguard combo

Different animal when it comes to free-floating.

The only other comparable receivers I've felt are:

* Proprietary LMT Monolithic Upper Platform

* VLTOR VIS

If you really want to stick with your handguard, then:

* Seekins

I'm not a HUGE LaRue fan but I do have a few of their parts and i like them.  I use to be a fan of the old school POF / Hogan receivers but they are getting to tough to find.  I may try a LaRue UU kit or upper/handguard next time around.

I was hoping you’d drop in
What do you think of Stealth 2.0?
That receiver/handguard combo is attractively priced

Or would you stick with the ‘standard’ Stealth?
Would be paired with this handguard

The first thing that stood out to me was how solid-feeling and sleek the Stealth 2.0 is.

I thought I was going to hate that junction between the upper and the handguard, but I don't even notice it.

It's extremely rock-solid.  The only thing that seems to move on the gun is the BCG, and the raceway for it is smooth.

Mine is a factory complete Stealth 2.0 Grendel 18".

If you're willing to go with a proprietary handguard, I'd check out the Aero M4E1 enhanced upper.  The handguard mounts directly to the receiver and not the barrel nut and it is a very solid mount.  Reasonably priced if you look around for them on sale and either Mlok, Keymod or partial pic rail.

This + truing tool

However I've never built "precision" specific ARs

VLTOR MUR
Larue Stealth 2.0
Noveske Gen 3
BCM
Aero

In that order for me. The BCM typically has a tight barrel extension fit, which is good but the actual receiver and wall thicknessis nothing special.  FWIW, the most accurate AR I’ve built was with an Aero stripped upper.

Came to post this. I’ve had good luck using BCM uppers for precision builds, and have a few of their uppers around for future builds. Their blems for 60 are a steal. I don’t know if the undersized throat really does anything for accuracy, or if it’s snake oil, but they work great IME at least as far as the upper receiver component of a precision build goes.

VLTOR MUR is another common answer you’ll see, though I have no experience with them.
