Do you really need 25-32x on the top end for hunting? Seems excessive. Buddy of mine does a lot of long range and competitive shooting and has Leupold Mk6 3-18x on all his LR guns. Shoots out to 1700 yards. What do you really gain with that much magnification?
NX8 2.5-20x50 is about 12” long and available if FFP or SFP for $1900 or less. 28oz Leupold Mk6 3-18x44 is even smaller, weighs about 23oz, costs $1600-1700. (Narrow FOV if I recall correctly.) My hunting rifles have Vortex Razor LHT 3-15x42 on them but I don’t expect to shoot anything beyond a few hundred yards. (I’d be fine with a 3-10x if it’s got adjustable parallax). |

View Quote Their VX-6HD 2-12x42 is perfect for hunting at ethical ranges. Reasonably priced (subjective lolz), reticle choices and the CDS system actually works well. Weights about 19 oz. I’ve got a few of these and they are great hunting scopes. VX-5HD are also great. I’m a fan of Leupold’s warranty. I’ve used it on multiple occasions and it truly a no hassle affair. |

I use the higher magnification for mountain hunting so I don’t have to carry a spotting scope.
Nx8 seems like a good choice. I went with the Eotech previously based on the weight. I own several Leupolds and they are on most of my rifles. I had the Vx6 on this rifle a few years ago and went wanted higher magnification for identification and judging of wildlife in the mountains. |

Do you use binoculars to spot then scope to judge or scope for both? |

Also mountain goat most recently. That can be tricky distinguishing between a billy and nannie. Hopefully sheep soon. This is not my whitetail rifle. That is 25-06 with a 10x Leupold VX3 |

Guide humps spotter and I use binos. I look through guides spotter. I carry as light a rifle as possible for the caliber I'm shooting. You hunt the Davis Mts at all or NM? |

Mostly Solo in the Gore Range Colorado, just got back from the Tetons, also spend a lot of time in Wasatch, and Frank Church wilderness.
Was booked on a goat hunt on Kodiak before Covid but had to postpone. Planning North Brooks Range in the next year or 2 if the economy picks pack up. Back pack hunting I try to carry as little as possible and make everything have multi purposes. |

No one has ever said " the scope is too bright" or " the glass is too clear". Get the Nightforce.https://www.milehighshooting.com/sales/nightforce-deals/
Watch this page as the deals come and go. Mile High is GTG. My son works for them. You can also look for truly "used" Nightforce scopes from PRS competitors but those have been USED where as the "demos" at Mile High were mounted on a stock and used at trade shows. |

The NX8 is a great scope.without being to PRC big. |

Nightforce NX8 4-32x50 Nightforce Atacr 5-25X56 Leica ER 5-25x56 Steiner t5xi 5-25x56 Leupold Mark 5 5-25x56 Bushnell XRS II 4.5-30x50 View Quote Of the optics you listed, the ATACR stands significantly above the rest, save the Leica. ATACR glass is the Alpha tier of glass and on par with S&B PMII, ZCO and Hensoldt. Leica is batting a strong second of the optics listed. The one hit I have against Leica is that they are known to have problematic customer service that takes a long time. Leica and Steiner are the only companies using Euro glass from Schott in Germany. All others are using LOW glass from Japan. They all are a toss-up for what features you want. Reticle, magnification range, illumination, build quality, FOV, weight/size, optical quality focus (resolution vs color fidelity vs light transmission vs depth of field, etc), cost, the list goes on. |

Im currently researching long range scopes and Valdada IOR scopes have really caught my eye.

The T5Xi and Bushnell XRSII can both be had for sub 1500$. I think the XRSII is down to 1200$ at select Bushnell dealers.
As far as the NF, I think the ATACR wins out in glass vs the NX8. But, for a LR hunting rifle, I’d have a Vortex AMG in the top mix. The glass is very close to the ATACR and it is lightweight. I’ve got 2 and they both compare favorably to my 5-25 f1 ATACR, but the 7-35ATACR does edge it out a bit more. Good luck regardless what you choose, but a Vortex AMG deserves a look for a LR hunting optic that can also fill a tactical application. |

I own am ATACR 5-25x56. Proceed with no remorse on the scope.

You may wish to consider Kahles as well in your price range. Used k624s can be found below $2000.
ATACR resolution is quite good, with a cooler color temperature (like viewing the world under fluorescent lighting). More fatiguing to look through, but contrast and fine detail resolution is excellent. I prefer "get both" with a warmer image and resolution with something like a S&B 5-25. Kahles is very close, with much better ergonomics than either, along with an excellent FOV and best eye box around. Reticles are also excellent. Elements of the ATACR not mentioned are that the ocular rotates with power adjustment, and the zero stop set mechanism is unnecessarily complex an irritating compared to something like a S&B or Kahles. |
|
|
I have an outfitter discount on the ones listed. The Khales and S&B not so much.

Yeah I am going with either the Nightforce ATACR 5-25 or the Leica 5-25 depending on availability of each from my outfitter purchase sites. If those arent available I am sure the NightForce NX8 4-32 will treat me well.
Looked at the Vortex AMG, but those arent currently available through the outfitter programs. |

Liberty has a pretty good price. Looks like a 6 week lead time. Similar lead time to Nightforce.

I really like the vortex amg for a hunting scope since its light and has locking turrets. I would also look at kahles. I prefer using an ATACR on my PRS rig but for hunting a NXS is my go to since it's magnification range is so large. All of them will work awesome just a matter of personal opinion.

Good deal here, although the MOAR T reticle might be a bit thin for hunting |

LEICA 5-25 is on order. I will try to review it for you guys soon.
