Just posting my error for anyone else new here.
I bought a few 50 round boxes of IMI 7.62x51 150gr ammo to break in the barrel on my Savage 10 (20" bbl, 1:10 twist, Insight Heathen Brake). The best group at 50 yards was over 3" with the rifle mounted on sand bags. I'm not claiming to be a fantastic shooter or anything, but I shot a better group from the same distance with my Henry .22LR lever action without sandbags. I'm guessing this is meant to be MG ammo, or something. Or it is just the wrong ammo to use in a bolt gun. FWIW, the flap on the box is stamped 10-031-8099-1. I have some 175gr SMK from Sig Sauer on order to try next. |

You might have to buy and try about 6 - 10 or more boxes and find out what round it likes best.
Some barrels are really finicky. |

I had a savage BG that was shooting 2-4 MOA until I found it liked Fed GMM 190 grn now 3/4-1 MOA

Darn near as good as FGMM 168gr out of numerous peoples firearms. It was so good, I truly wish I had bought enough to burn out a barrel. At that time frame , I e-mailed GGG and asked why they didn't sell their match loads over here... they said no one would be their vendor. I have bought some, but haven't had an opportunity to try any of the various bullet weights, or this current production lot. However... based on the 2003 FMJ, I have reasonable "faith". ( FWIW... the next batch of GGG FMJ ( 2015 ish ) used different powder, and was no where near as accurate as the 2003 lot. ) |
