Trijicon Accupower 1-4 on sale for 479.99 right now.

Having owned 3 of those PST 1-4s, I am switching over to Trijicon. Glass seems about the same, but I like the capped turrets.

Edit: I see that I misread the question.
Still like Accupower in higher magnification for glass quality. Used Accupoint I've had for just below $500.

Consider Leupold VX2 or VX3?

I had two of the gen 1 4-16's. I didn't like them very much due to the IMO poor glass but I can't really think of anything better for that $450 mark.

For that price they have some good features.

I looked through a gen 1 PST 4-16 once and my immediate first thought was how milky and hazy the glass was. Was not impressed at all. At $450, look for a used Bushnell elite tactical. It'll be a SFP scope at that price but at least it's an LOW made optic. Second choice in that price range would be a used Athlon Midas Tac. SUPER glass for that money. And the turrets are incredible.

Agree with the above on the 4-16. Really not impressed with the one I had. Was one of initial run.

There seems to be significant variation in the Gen 1 PST line. I also had a 2.5-10x32 that had fantastic glass. If you can swing one of those, that's what I would pick.

The Vortex 6-24x50 Gen 1 is $499 at EuroOptics.

Interestingly, I have the 4-16 HST with target knobs and think the glass is very good.  I also have a PST 2.5 -10 that is well reviewed in this thread and I don’t like the glass nearly as much.

I paid $480 a month ago for a new Trijicon Accupoiwer 4-16.

And the prices have crept up a little since Nikon 1st discontinued scopes, but I'd get a Nikon Black over that Vortex, too.

Europtic has the Nikon FX1000 4-16x50 FFP for $369 right now. It has better glass, FFP and a zero stop.

In trade you're dealing with a company that is exiting rifle optics.

My son is pretty happy with his Viper HS 4x16x44

I put that same scope, also from Europtic, on my CZ 457 Varmint and have really liked it, so much so that I am thinking about another one for an AR I have.

I got out and sighted in three rifles with these scopes. Came home and bought a forth. Definitely great optics for the money. The zero stop is super easy to set.
