What is the generally accepted max bullet weight for this twist rate.

I have a 1/11.25 bolt gun that will stabilize 220’s loaded long, what you will run into is what will fit in your mag, but it will shoot 175’s 185’s and 190’s mag length and stabilize them easily. I have the same barrel on one AR10 and it shoots all the above just fine.

Also don’t forget to try them all, one type will definitely be better than the other. Although that may be difficult these days, it’s worth it when choosing a bullet to stock up on. An older AR10 I had with a 16 in 1/11.25 shot the 190’s great, the current one is better with 175’s but ok with 168’s, and another that is just a 1/11 (Krieger) will shoot 175’s and 185 Berger’s extremely well.

With an AR and having to worry about mag length I wouldn't go higher than the 178s and maybe a 185. Reason being is you will have to jam a lot of the bullet into the powder area and cut velocity. The 178s would be a good area to get velocity and still a good BC. With the new higher BC bullets now you can get a good BC without going real heavy. Example, the 190 SMK has a .533 BC but the 168 ELD-M has a .523 and the 178 ELD has a .547 so you can get them going faster with almost the same or more BC as the 190.

Absolutely this! I've had an AR10 that 'should' have stabilized 175's but for whatever reason like the 168 BTHP much better. definitely wise advice to try the different weights. |

Unless you plan on shooting past 800 with it, try the 155 lapua scenar. I load them to 2900 with xbr 8208 and they are stupid accurate and flat shooting to 800. Beyond that I move to the berger 185 juggernaut.
