I see a lot of people talking about .3 and .5 inch groups, just curious what most are doing to get these small groups? All of my shooting is from a bipod and usually around 1 moa with my bolt actions and ar10.

1" out of the box is pretty good .
Free float , handloads , trigger time . How is the bipod attached ? Three shot groups or five ? |

To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

300rum, bipod and a bag...it just takes figuring out what the rifle likes and making sure when the rifle recoils it is moving straight back in the same plane it was in when the trigger was pulled...In my case, the rifle likes almost zero preload on the bipod, barely any finger pressure on the grip and a straight pull on the trigger...

Bipod and rear bag, also tripod.
Shooting from a bench is easy, shooting from field positions is more challenging. |

Bipod and a homemade rear bag is how I shoot mine.

Tripod for most of my precision stuff.
I haven't seen an actual range in more than a decade, so trees/boulders/grass/brush out the wazoo any place I shoot. Got tired of dealing with stuff blocking LOS to the target. |

Sling and iron sights from prone. I can't shoot sub-1/2 MOA out to too far, but I have shot a lot of sub-2MOA 20 shot groups at 600 and 1000 yards. And at least 1 sub-MOA 20-shot group at 600.

Either a bipod or adjustable tripod rest up front and a leather rabbit ear bag in the back when I'm doing load development.
When I'm actually shooting long range it's usually a bipod up front and a squeeze bag on the rear or just my left hand on the rear (right handed). I have no idea who made the tripod front rest as it's old but I also have a Caldwell one that works alright but isn't great. Caldwell makes a long front bag that works pretty well with hunting rifles with slim forends. |

Do you load up the legs by leaning into your rifle? No bounce and very easy to control recoil.
Notice how I push forward on the rifle to load the legs on the grass. 308Win on steel. |
