This is my first “precision” rifle. I am learning as I go.
I really couldn’t believe the barrel was 22” so I measured it. Yup right on the mark. This thing is so stout, #7 profile, it makes the barrel look short. I measured the throat depth with 10 bullets tonight. Found it very interesting that as I pushed the bullets in with the tool I could feel the Lapua bullets hit the throat. Then a little more pressure and they would slide in to the lands. I think this is going to be a learning adventure…. Oh yes, the bolt is smooth like….. |

You don’t want them sliding in with a lot of pressure. You want to measure the touch as that’s the oal to the lands so just touch and take out and measure.

Was curious about the profile of the barrel and the weight of the gun today. Bare gun, no mag, rings or scope is 12 lbs. The 22” barrel tapers to .98” just behind the thread protector.

Very happy with the gun. I have shot a couple sub .2” five shot groups with it. Also got to shoot a GAP in 338 Norma at 600 yards today. It was outstanding! What did you order? |

Good luck, several years ago we got a lemon and George didn't make it right. Took another Smith after 2 trips back to GAP to diagnose the issue...
