Prior to 2020 I purchased some rounds of Federal Lake City M118LR (7.62x51 175gr). Now that the Lake City production facility was taken over by Winchester and since they're currently going for $3 per round I started looking into alternatives. I see lots of Federal Gold Medal 175 Sierra MKHP. On paper these rounds appear identical, but I was wondering how similar they are in practice. The obvious answer is to "just shoot it", but I'm in a situation where I won't be able to make it to the range for a while and I was curious if anyone had any practical experience. My current rifle (a 20" AR-10) is zeroed in on M118LR and I have my DOPE out to 900 yards so I'm wondering if I'll have to throw out my DOPE if I switch to the new rounds.

"Just shoot it" is the only answer.  What they say on paper doesn't matter.

They may be nearly identical in my rifle, but that doesn't mean they will be in yours.

On a good note, FGMM is considered the gold standard for .308 match grade ammo.

I had a 20" 7.62 OBR that had the same POI with FGMM and Win. Ballistic Silvertips.

You just don't know until you shoot it.

Actual M118LR is some of the worst ammo I’ve ever shot. ES around 100 and SDs at 40.

DGAF how accurate it is at 100 with those numbers.

I bought a few cases of Federal GM762M2 for a great price and thought I was getting a great deal.  The joke is on me because it shoots bad through every 308/762 I have.

Great, I also bought a few cases in the last few months.  This doesn't give me hopes it'll shoot as it should

If FGMM doesn’t shoot in your rifles, generally I’d be more concerned about the rifles.

However, you’ll have no trouble selling FGMM. It’s a valuable commodity.

OP, I’d expect your dope will be very helpful for any quality 308 ammo using a bullet with a similar velocity and BC.

Shooting it is the only way to know for sure.

GMM 7.62x51 175 is almost 100 fps faster than GMM 308 175 in my bolt gun.    I was surprised.

2660 vs 2750

Only downside to FGMM is that federal brass is shit for reloading. I have a couple cases of 168 and 175 in my stash for SHTF because I know it shoots well and because I know I wouldn't be concerned about collecting brass.
