Quick question for you guys...

What do you like for cleaning rods? Seems like Dewey makes a great product at a decent price... is there another option I should look at?

I only ever run Boresnakes through my rimfires. I'll be interested to see the replies here.

Dewey one piece is all I've ever used.

The only rifle cleaning rods I own are Tipton "Deluxe 1-Piece Carbon Fiber Cleaning Rods" (LINK).  I also use a Dewey 1 piece brass pistol cleaning rods (LINK) to clean/mop my (center fire) chambers.

Having said that, I use boresnakes more than anything else for rifles...  For pistols, I usually use rods & conventional cleaning materials.

I have a Dewey, but use an Otis wire for my rimfires.  I sometimes use the Dewey on 5.56.

for my .22LR I just use the Bore Boss that I use on my AR15. Works plenty good.

I don't clean my rimfires very often.  When I do, it's with a Dewey, black-coated rod.  Sometimes, I just pull it thru the bore rather than push and pull (OCD?).

Either way, I work from the chamber end.

I also use a rod guide appropriate for the action I am working on.

Growing up, my dad taught me to use a straightened coat hanger. (Doh!)  Now I use weed whacker line.

Coat hangers are made of pretty soft metal. I wonder if they actually did any damage to the rifles?
