i started helping my uncle around 13 got my own kit at 17, upgraded over the year and have loaded well over 20k rounds at my current age of 31

Started in my early 20s. I’m 35 and have a 550 and 750 as well as a single stage, reload over 10 different calibers.

I started in my late 20s.
I hate to admit the decades of experience….but, decades. While I sometimes load blasting handgun ammo, the bulk of my reloading is precision rifle in 6.5CM & .223; second is light or heavy revolver ammo. That’s what I suspect the age gap is about. But, I’ve been wrong before. |

Reloaded from 16/17 until I was 24. Wife + twins + job + other hobbies left over no time for reloading so I sold everything up. I’ll get back into it when I retire in 30 - 35 years

I started in the early 1990s with a 10 year gap around 2000.
Glad I didn't sell one piece of equipment or get rid of any components. Just wish I stacked more primers back then than I did. |

My dad let me borrow his reloading gear when I was about 30. He liked the loads I put together so much he told me to keep everything. He never had to buy ammunition after that.
 That was 35 years ago. |

It makes sense that reloaders would be older. You need to get into shooting first. So that adds a few years.

I started in '94 at age 23 so......how does one calculate a useful avg. age for people who have been doing for 20-30-40-50 years?
Average age today? I suppose if the idea is to see if young shooters are getting into it or not. |

I started handloading at the age of seven (shotshells with a Lee Loader and card wads). I am now 60 and have been loading ever since. Does that put the average age for me at (60 + 7) / 2 = 33.5?

I started in my teens, with a Lee Loader for .30 Carbine. Never really got much done with that. At 21, my brand new wife gave me an RCBS Rock Chucker kit - the whole shebang. I'm still using everything that came with it. That was 42 years ago...
So what your poll says is more "the average age of people who reload, and who play with online forums, and who focus on reloading in the ARFCOM Precision Rifles subforum. I spend a lot more time in the Armory/Reloading forum. |

My dad was going broke taking me and my two brothers dove hunting so he initially got into shotshell reloading around 1976-77. I was about fifteen.
I started doing my own reloading of shotshells and metallic cartridges around 1986. I'll be 61 in Dec. |

Started learning in my early teens. Had my own press in my bedroom at 15-16. Been reloading ever since and I'm over 50 now.
I've exposed a number of people to reloading over the years. Young and adult. No takers. I don't think it's an age thing as much as being too narrow of an interest. |

I started when I was in my 20s. Did it for about 5 years then life got busy with jobs, family, divorce, etc. I started up again when I was around 65 ior so, I’m 73 now. I never had as much free time till later in life so reloading fills that space. I spend hours developing loads and squeezing out every ounce of accuracy from my rifles.

I claim tops. Started with "?" Lyman shotshell and a hammer out the primer Lee 30 Carbine in about 65/66. Just finished a few 243 the other day. 65-2023=58yrs
