Saw this and wondered if Arfcom had a notably different age range for reloading.

Thank you for your participation!

As suspected, the older crowd.

Started in my early 20s. I’m 35 and have a 550 and 750 as well as a single stage, reload over 10 different calibers.

I am now old but yea, started when I was in high school.  Mostly self taught from the RCBS/Speer  number 10 manual after watching a buddy reload neck sized .243 on a Partner press.  I bought a Reloader Special 3 kit.   Still have it, lots of slop on it but have more presses,....rock chucker, big boss2, dillon 550b and a CoAx.

I started reloading as a teenager...  I am now in my 60s.  Had a big gap in the middle!

Thanks all for the participation.

Also, thank you for ignoring the poll screw ups and spelling errors!
Put this post up from my phone and while trying to edit my errors, only made them worse!

I'm 67 and have been reloading 99% of my own ammo since 1984.
Link Posted: 4/7/2022 4:44:46 PM EDT
I started in my late 20s.

I hate to admit the decades of experience….but, decades.

While I sometimes load blasting handgun ammo, the bulk of my reloading is precision rifle in 6.5CM & .223; second is light or heavy revolver ammo.

That’s what I suspect the age gap is about.  But, I’ve been wrong before.

I started at 23. Will be turning 52 in a couple months.
Link Posted: 4/7/2022 6:03:19 PM EDT
Started 15 years ago in my mid 20’s
Link Posted: 4/7/2022 6:09:16 PM EDT
Reloaded from 16/17 until I was 24. Wife + twins + job + other hobbies left over no time for reloading so I sold everything up. I’ll get back into it when I retire in 30 - 35 years

I started in the early 1990s with a 10 year gap around 2000.
Glad I didn't sell one piece of equipment or get rid of any components.
Just wish I stacked more primers back then than I did.

I started loading at 22 haven’t stopped … that was a long time ago.
Link Posted: 4/8/2022 6:03:47 AM EDT

I started in my teens.

I am in my 50s now.

Poll fail because there is no choice, lifetime.

48yo and have been reloading for 20 years.
Link Posted: 4/16/2022 8:06:56 AM EDT
I taught myself reloading at age 33 or so.  I am 40 this month.
Link Posted: 4/17/2022 9:31:00 PM EDT

Poll is looking for current age.

Late 30s, started in early 20s.
Link Posted: 5/22/2022 9:51:38 PM EDT
Upper end of the poll now, but started when I was 18.
Link Posted: 5/22/2022 10:00:22 PM EDT
I’ve been doing it since I was 16 but I’m in my 30s now.

My dad let me borrow his reloading gear when I was about 30. He liked the loads I put together so much he told me to keep everything. He never had to buy ammunition after that.
That was 35 years ago.

Started about 30 years ago. I'm 63
Link Posted: 5/28/2022 7:01:43 AM EDT
I'm 56.

Just shot some 22-250 I loaded in 1978.

Link Posted: 5/28/2022 8:02:19 AM EDT

I started 45acp in high school with one of those goofy LEE kits where you tap the primer in with a hammer LOL

Link Posted: 5/28/2022 8:18:40 AM EDT
It makes sense that reloaders would be older. You need to get into shooting first. So that adds a few years.
Link Posted: 5/28/2022 8:48:54 AM EDT
I started in '94 at age 23 so......how does one calculate a useful avg. age for people who have been doing for 20-30-40-50 years?
Average age today? I suppose if the idea is to see if young shooters are getting into it or not.
Link Posted: 5/28/2022 10:52:50 AM EDT
I started in 1973 with the help of a fellow @ Carter's Country in Spring TX.

I started handloading at the age of seven (shotshells with a Lee Loader and card wads).  I am now 60 and have been loading ever since.  Does that put the average age for me at (60 + 7) / 2 = 33.5?
Link Posted: 6/26/2022 7:17:45 PM EDT
Mid 40's now but started loading with the help of my uncle in my early teens.
Link Posted: 7/11/2022 9:36:15 PM EDT
I started in my teens, with a Lee Loader for .30 Carbine.  Never really got much done with that.  At 21, my brand new wife gave me an RCBS Rock Chucker kit - the whole shebang.  I'm still using everything that came with it.  That was 42 years ago...

So what your poll says is more "the average age of people who reload, and who play with online forums, and who focus on reloading in the ARFCOM Precision Rifles subforum.  I spend a lot more time in the Armory/Reloading forum.
Link Posted: 7/20/2022 6:06:55 PM EDT
My dad was going broke taking me and my two brothers dove hunting so he initially got into shotshell reloading around 1976-77. I was about fifteen.

I started doing my own reloading of shotshells and metallic cartridges around 1986. I'll be 61 in Dec.

The poll doesn't say when did you start.

Not really a poll fail as I see it.
