Any thoughts on Kestrel wind meters?  They’ve got lots of options but I’m not too familiar with them.  Would like to hear from others before dropping the cash.

I have no experience with those but I've been very happy with my trusty WeatherMate.

My Kestrel is a basic model and several years old. Let's me nail targets at over 1000 yds with ease. Durable unit too. The newer models are even better.

It depends on what you are doing with it.

I use mine for PRS and have the full blown 5700 Elite with Applied Ballistics.

If you are not doing that (and want ballistics) get the standard 5700.  You can upgrade that meter later if wanted.

I have good results with my 5700 ballistics.

Works out past 1k with a 308 for me.

Of course it can never be perfect, only taking readings from the firing position, but no issues here.

I have the Kestral Sportsman with AB. It allows 3 guns in memory at a time. I link it to my iPad and phone to store more guns on the app. Pretty easy to move guns from the app to the unit. After truing the ballistics it works great on targets as far as I am likely to shoot. I like the unit but would love one that links to my rangefinder automatically. I know that’s got to be coming so I’ll save my sheckles for that version next.

I have a 5700 Ballistics and it’s a great tool.

After well over a decade of use, my Kestrel 4000 is still working great.

Knowing roughly where I'm at and the old Mk.1 fingertip usually give me more than detailed enough environmental data. When that's not viable, I use a 2500NV kestrel. It's all you'll actually ever need in a weather meter.

If you can find the Kestrel Sportsman at a decent price buy it and upgrade it.

Last year I bought a Kestrel Sportsman from Camerland NY, it was a steal at $249.99 and I upgraded it to the 5700 Elite with the firmware from Kestrel for ??, I don't remember but it is $190 now.
Very happy I bought one.

Panhandle Precision on YouTube has some very good video walk thrus.

Watch all of those and you'll be way ahead of the learning curve.

I ended up with the 5700 AB and have no regrets, four years in now.  I use it for hunting and my daughter uses it at PRS matches only out to 1k so far but good dope.

5700 elite is fantastic, learn to use it as a tool and not a crutch though.
