I have a line on a Kimber bolt gun in 7mm Rem Magnum.  Good price.  Is there a chassis stock for the Kimber, and would the 7mm be a good choice for long range?

Great cartridge but somewhat limited by the standard twist rate of 9.5:1.

Lots of great 7mm high bc bullets available. The best ones need at least a 8.5:1 twist.

I don’t know anything about that rifle OP, but I was at the range last week and another guy was shooting a 7 mag while I was working my 300wm.     He was shooting 1.75” groups with a custom build elk rifle/some custom bbl.  His groups were putting mine to shame, and his target was at the 200 yd line, mine at 100.

We talked, he has about 2500 into the build not counting the donor M700 receiver.   Apples and oranges tho, not many factory rifles can do that.   I dry fired it and now I need a jewell trigger too.

local pawn shop has a kimber classic, asking $750 but I've done business with them before and I'm pretty sure I could get it for less.  Rifles like this (magnum, wood stock) generally haven't been shot a lot.  Went by there to take a close look at it and they're "temporarily closed"... Damn Covid

It probably wouldn't be my first choice because I'm not a big fan of recoil,  the twist rate issue, and it would cost substantially more for ammo or to reload.  I'm sure you could put a good piece of glass on it and shoot it to 1000 but it probably isn't going to be competitive against some of the other available calibers.

I think the 7mmRM is a great cartridge and a very flat shooter. I'm over 1k rounds through mine and it is still shooting sub moa out of a Shilen 27" barrel. Mine likes about 3000 fps (70.0gr Retumbo under a 162 amax).

What you get with a 7mmRM is a rifle that shoots lighter bullets with good BC's over a 300WM.  That used to be a thing to consider till the 6.5 gained in popularity.

That said, I am impressed with how the 7mmRM performs compared to the 308.  Not much difference in recoil but it pushes a lighter 150 gr. bullet faster and hits steel targets just as hard as the 175 gr. 308 loadings.

I hunt with both the 7mmRM and 308; the 7mmRM is my go to gun for hunting.
