Hi all
Trying to figure which one of these to go with it’s for precision shooting 600 to 1000 competition. I have a ton of .243 bullets so I am leaning towards the 6mm but 6.5 is available if I don’t want to reload
Thanks all

I'd go 6.5 Grendel since it's more popular and common and available

I’d hold off till Hornady releases their 6mm ARC if I was dead set on going with a 6mm. It’s very similar but has a slightly shorter case to the grendel, but will have factory ammo support.

That said, if just shooting at steel/paper, a good 224Valkyrie will hang with or beat either of those (Drop/drift) with 80gr bullets and a 24” barrel.

I have a 6 Grendel and am very happy with it.

With 4895 I can easily push 105 Berger Hybrids to 2600 out of a 22 inch barrel.

Here is 5 shots at 615 yards.  I was just holding center of mass on the big brown blob.

You won't be competitive at 1000 yards with either round. 600 maybe...…

You need high B.C. and high velocity to have any chance of doing well at long range.

I shoot 6.5 Grendel using lightweight bullets. 90 grain for inside 200 yards. 100 to 108 grain match bullets for longer ranges. The velocity lost using 123's won't make up for their higher B.C.'s.

If you have a bolt action and a longer barrel (22"+) you can run your pressures up a little higher than with an AR. It will also allow higher speeds with 107's.

Going with a 6mmAR means you won't ever be able to buy commercial ammo. Check out Robert Whitely's 6mmAR.com website if you really want to go down that rabbit hole. He has all sorts of options and load data online.

Absolutely.  The wind blows the 105s around a bit more than 115s out of my 243, but thats life.

I think this is a Bartlien or a Kreiger.  I cant remember.  Rifle length gas, 22 inch barrel, Thunderbeast Ultra 7, S&B 4-16x42.  Nothing special or high speed.
