Update: still waiting on my ARMS #36 ex osr so I don't have to switch scope mounts when I swap the scope back and forth between this Grendel and a .300blk bolt action, eventually I'll pool money together for its own optic but for as often as I think I'll shoot it, swapping is easy enough for now.

Very nice built. I also like the A2 stock. Why the rail (lower scope rings)?

I felt the same way until I shot a coyote last winter. WAY too much damage to the pelt as the bullet ripped the right shoulder through the body and took out the left shoulder almost blowing the dog into 2 pieces. I'd be tempted to use it on an Elk at close range (under 200yds).

View Quote Yeah it was a little wonky, Seekins adjustable GB. I just left the hand guard nut hand tight until I got the gas set correctly. I would recommend using a GB that adjust from muzzle end for this hand guard. Edit: the low profile adjustable uses set screws to attach. Has plenty of clearance |

Well, I've got a Satern 6.5G 18in barrel on the way to D. Wilson so he can rig it for my LMT MRP uppers. It'll be heavy but no heavier than that LMT with the 18in .223 barrel. Should pack a much better punch also.
If the cheap stuff will shoot even ok thatll be its primary diet but I also intend to reload for precision stuff as well as hunting purposes. What powders do well with 6.5G that also play well with .223. I already use RL-15 and I've had great luck with 8208 with a bolt action .223, any others I should keep an eye out for? Looks like I need to source some mags also, whats the current goodness here? The more different they look or feel from regular AR mags the better. It'll be a minute until I get to play with it, itll be sort of a 'welcome home' present to myself. When I get home I'll post pics and all that. |

Gotta say, I am having a hell of a time trying to find more ammo for my grendel. My problem is that its too fun to shoot, and what I thought was a good stash has turned out to be.... less than ideal

Well, its earlier next year.
Wilson got the barrel converted inside his time frame. Sadly I was overseas so it sat in my office till I got back. And then I get back and ammo has gone absolutely nutso. BUT, Academy had some Hornady Black so I bought up my limit. Attached File Since it was the first time shooting this rifle in over a year I went ahead and shot. zero confirmation with the standard barrel at 25m, thats the group on the left. I swapped the barrels and shot the group on the right... pretty good signs Attached File moved out to a 100m, same deal. 6 5G on the right. 556 on the left. Think I can tighten those up with more practice, I am kind of rusty. Attached File |

I shot this 6 point at 50 yards, same round, slightly quartering away. Both lungs turned to goo, devastating internal performance, but no exit hole. He went about 70 yards, very sparse blood trail. Furthest I’ve had a deer go with the ELD-M was 31 yards after a frontal heart shot. The remaining 12 deer were all three steps or less. I would’ve imagined the sst was similar in performance.

Great looking rifles in this thread.
I am about to start my first 6.5 build and wanted to ask you guys what barrel length to go with for decent ballistics. I was thinking 16" but see many shorter barrels in here. If I go shorter than 16" how much do I give up? Also, who are considered the top tier barrel manufacturers for the 6.5? I am willing to wait for the right barrel/bolt combo. Also, I heard that finding reliable mags for the 6.5 is a bitch. What mags are you guys running that are reliable? Thanks! |
