I was thinking of buying a 20” 22-250, has anyone measured the velocity of the hornady 55 vmax from a 20” barrel? Or any similar load?
I am starting to think there’s not much advantage of 22/250 over .223? Am I wrong?
Would a 20” 22/250 suppressed be alright or still loud?
Basically I’m looking for a bolt gun to hunt coyotes with that’s less recoil than 6.5 creedmoor.
Thanks.

you'll likely still have a decent gain over a .223 with a 55gr bullet, however where the 22-250 or 22 creedmoor shines is when you run a fast twist barrel with the heavies. are you saving the fur? if not a 1:8-1:7 22-250/creedmoor with some 80-95gr bullet would flatten some yotes a good ways out there.

yes you'll lose velocity vs a 26" barrel but in my limited experience when you run heavy for caliber bullets the losses are less dramatic vs light for caliber. ie a 20" 22-250 shooting 90's would be a huge step up in power vs a 20" .223 shooting 77's (or even 90's)

as for suppression you'll likely gain a few DB and more so generate more heat but at the rate of fire you'd be shooting I think it's nothing I'd worry about unless you attack a dog town ;)
