for my tech class I used the ham Whisper website and had very good results.  I have been listening to his videos for the general class as well but they are for the tests that stopped in 2011.

how different are the questions and material?
http://www.hamwhisperer.com/p/ham-courses.html

are there any others you would recommend? I already have the ARRL general class book and reading it along with the ham whisper videos, but I would like to have a more up to date videos/prep to go along with the book. so far I am not passing the online tests....

What resources helped you the most?

Seth

There are a myriad if videos but since the question pool gets updated to cover changes in the law and current technology a large majority of the videos will be outdated. @SCWolverine hosts a great podcast and may have some up to date info on vids.

i studied the tech and gen question bank for a couple months until i could get a 90% score then took both tests the same session.  they only charge you for one session no matter how many tests you take.  i took the tech and the guy asked me if i wanted to take the general , i said why not passed both and bought the radio and as the lady says   "the rest is history"

I used the following for General and Extra.  Keeps track of what you do not know and keeps asking those questions till you literally automatically answer.

I have an eidetic memory so just used the N1ZTL flash cards on the iPhone for a few days and passed all the tests with 100%.  I would go through a section sample test, read the correct answers on the ones I missed and got them right the next time through.

I used this for Extra and highly recommend it for that, but I would probably use hamstudy.org for General, save a few bucks.

thanks @FN64GR  !

I've had Dan, KB6NU on before about his 'No Nonsense' Study Guides : Link Here

I've used (for General) the pay to play service from HamTestOnline (worth it for me personally)

I know some do flash cards on the phone, and the free study apps.

this guy makes a great aftermarket flexible HT antenna that helps pay his bills to host Ham Study dot ORG

I bought the AARL book and read that, took me two times before I passed it, but I was confident I knew the "why" instead of just the answers to questions.

For my Technician I just studied the question bank, but for my General, I used the 'No Nonsense' guide and Hamexam.org

Currently studying with the latter two for my Extra.

This is what I used.  In addition to hammering on questions you miss it has supplemental links to off site info that explain the theory behind the questions in greater depth.  It's really a quality package.

HamStudy.org, give yourself a month of study time before your test.

Take at least one test a day, and write down the question and the correct answer for every one you get wrong.

It'll take a long time and you'll fill up a couple of legal pads with questions and answers but writing them down forces your brain to lock them in much better.

No thank you! I really had no interest (thanks HRO) in doing it until I started listening to your pod casts on SOTA.

I use HAM Test Prep app on my note 3. I'm using it for general study now. I used it for my technician exam, plus a 1 day class, last year.
