Our club, W4CA, is operating special event stations along the Blue Ridge Parkway in VA today. I will be operating from an over look at milepost 17 and we have three other stations stretching down to milepost 189 or so.

Frequencies will be near 7.245 and 14.425 from 1000et to 1700et and each station will be using W4CA/(milepost). I won't have cell access once on site so I can't update this post.

Thanks, I will give it a try. The Priest, Milepost 17.6 is close to my QTH, about 75 miles towards the coast.

14.245, 5x9 signal, dude with a weird foreign accent (Call DJ7EO) talking REALLY fast giving a signal strength then a "serial number" sequence.
After a while, another dude reads off a lot off call signs and junk, and the foreign dude then says roger a lot.

Not sure what that is all about?

7.245, nothing.

That is the WAE DX contest going on and the numbers are sequential numbers indicating which QSL he is for the contest. That is a German station.

Ok, thanks, I was never really into contests and never really listened to one.
Mainly into nets and Emcomm.

The German dude should have slowed down, talked about the weather in Germany, how pretty it is over there this time of year and mentioned all the good Beer!

I was on 7.237 from 10:30-12:30 and made 16 contacts on 50w into a 40m OCFD. The station beside me was on 20m and was swamped by high powered stations and only managed one contact. It rained the whole time and our pop up starting leaking at the seams so we quit early.

Happiness is busting a pile up with your first call - JO1DZA in Japan on 7.148 SSB. Exchange of 5-7’s both ways over 7400 miles from my station.  It’s been years since I was able to hear Asia, much less make a contact.

20m is done usually once the sun goes down.

I talked on 6m for the first time tonight. With a buddy of mine about 5 miles away. It does well for local comms by my limited experience.

Funny you bring up 6m.   I never transmitted on that band and was looking at it after not hearing anything of you guys.  Not that I expected to hear the left coast and beyond.  Texas on the other hand is often good to NY.  Sometimes not.

No traffic on 6m, I scrolled around on 40m but it was packed with contesting......so I went to bed.

Keep an eye/ ear on 6M, it does it's thing in the spring/ early summer. They don't call it the magic band for nothing. Check it out DX Map Spots 6M

Listened to an uncle/nephew do a team POTA activation from VA. 3 parks.  Basically six logbook entries right there. 18.135, but the band seems to have died.

Well my MFJ tuner showed up today to replace the nonfunctional ebay special and it seems to be working. Guess I’ll just have to score a contact somewhere to know for sure, but hopefully this will open up 80 and up for me besides just 20/40

Hanging out listening on 20. Not that I'm an experienced judge, but the band sounds decent tonight. Was stellar for the last couple.

I have been on 20m tonight.   Things are getting better for me distance wise.

Yesterday I picked up my first W coast station in Oregon.

Today I finally reached  South America with Trinidad and then Brazil.

Hitting Europe was never that bad for me from here.   Oregon was harder to get than Russia.  . I did have an almost into California but the guy moved on after three or four attempts.

Anyone on 40m?

Playing with my expanded set up and using about 400w of the amp tonight.  Made one contact in Northern Italy.  5-8 signal.

Fair amount of static.
