As much as I like my M1 Garands and M1A and GII if I had no choice and had to grab stuff up and walk out the door it would have to be an AR15.

If I lived in another part of the country, that could change based on the size of predator animals and the terrain.  Down here a coyote or feral dog is about it, maybe a bob cat  - and people who figure they can just take what you have.  And it's easy to avoid any place you can see farther than 100 to 150 yds. by just going around it through the woods/brush.

16" Colt Sporter w/2 pos. stock.  Only because it's so light and handy.  I'm in Miami, so I think I'd be needing all the tools in the tool bag.  I suppose I could raid the new 7-11 store down the street, with only my Seecamp .32?

8" 300 BO, dot, light, and reload on board. I only want to grab one thing when I need to, whether that's for an armed intruder, coyote stealing my truck, zombies, etc. I have other options once I'm out of the house, but that's my "get shit done right now" rifle.

M4.
Using a rifle to obtain game would not be a high expectation for me.  I would want the most effective defensive tool that I could easily carry.  Hence the m4

Right this minute? Probably my mossberg 500.
If I knew I had to leave? AR15 - soon to have 13.7" pinned barrel and TA33 (it's a 16" with Aimpoint now). CMMG .22 conversion for small game if needed, but it will do just about everything I need it to do in the South East.

All these "pinned" barrels make me suspicious

tOBR heavy 16" is my go to gun for just about everything.  In a family of six there would be more than one rifle going out the door, mostly of the AR variety and probably three calibers .22, 556, 762.

Ohhhh Nice choice.
I standardized on 12ga, .223 and 9mm. Some .22 in there too, but not really enough to be a logistical concern.

Commie rifle is very good rifle...even if it is antiquated and has the ballistics of a grapefruit
But seriously, 7.62x39 is a very good caliber for all round use. I just don't like the drop at range. And if you want to shoot that caliber, for the love of God, get an AK or SKS.

Someone has to be the guy to say it, so I'll be that guy I guess.

I'd take my CMMG Mk57 Banshee.

Easy to suppress, very small and light, ammo weighs next to nothing and packs small.

I have that option as well, with a single 10 round mag in it and a five rounder in the butt, very light and handy little rifle. CZ527M carbine is a great bolt action bug out rifle.

I hear this often but it contradicts what I saw in 2012.   AR's, AR parts, and AR ammo were pretty scarce for a while.   And it wasn't even SHTF.

With AR’s being cheaper than Glocks, why even bother much with spare parts?  Maybe some pins/springs/extractor, and an extra bolt. But if you’re not buying and assembling lowers right now you’re wrong. Give it 2 or 6 years...   if political winds will shift yet again and we will be dealing with panics and threats of bans all over again. Those $350 AR’s PSA can’t move fast enough right now will be flying off the shelves and resold at triple that to guys who didn’t buy during salad days.

There wasn't any shop - it was a gunsmith buddy of mine using two damaged 5 rounders and his ingenuitiy to make, as far as I know, the ONLY 10 round CZ 537M 7.62x39mm magazine in the world. It works perfectly and looks weird. But no, he made one and that was it.
