If you had to only select three guns/caliber for hunting that could cover all your needs, what calibers would they be in?

For me:

204 Ruger
6.5 Creedmoor
375 H&H Magnum

22
223

These would cover anything I'll ever hunt.

Yup

.22 - The old Win. M52B
.223 - the old M700 Varmint Special
.30-06 - the old Rem. 03A4

Sorry, had to add the rifles to the cartridges to get the full effect.

The first two for four legged critters.   The last for two legged ones (except kangaroos and such).

If I could only keep 3 of my long guns:

416 Rigby
30/06
257 Roberts AI

Since a gun would be defined as a firearm ie serial numbered receiver I would choose

Sauer 202 with barrels in:

22/250
243
25/05
6.5x55
7x64
270
308
30-06
8x57
9.3x62
Spare magnum faced bolt
7mm Mag
300 Win Mag
338 Win Mag
375 H&H
416 Rem Mag
458 Lott

I would also have additional barrels rechambered.

25-05 Rechambered to 257 Weatherby
6.5x55 rechambered to 264 Win Mag
270 rebored and rechambered to 338-06 AI
8x57 rechambered to 8mm Rem mag

2nd gun would be a Ruger 10/22

3rd would be an FN FAL para

This is very similar to my actual hunting battery, which is:

CZ 550 Safari Magnum in 416 Rigby (large game rifle)
Winchester Model 70 Extreme Weather in 300 Win Mag (medium game rifle)
Savage 12 LRP in 243 Winchester (varmint rifle)

Granted, I have some others as well but those I listed above see the most use except for the Rigby.  That'll be for elk, moose, or bear if I ever decide to do that.

My three gun battery right now is a 19 rifle battery.

It was 40 but I trimmed heavily.

My three most used right now is 223,35 Rem, and 35 Whelen.

North East guy so lots of trees and close shots.

I’m going to trim more but it’s hard.

Yeah I trimmed a lot starting late last year and through some of this year.  Just had too much stuff and not enough time to shoot it all.  I even just put my 416 Rigby up for sale, but I'm not sure yet what I want to eventually replace it with.  Thinking of getting a 458 Lott again or a 375 H&H.

Just to clarify, ...

...... are you asking about rifles (specifying make & model) OR cartridge chamberings  (which is what you named), ... OR both

Either/or.  I just named cartridges that would cover any needs for hunting, but if I had to pick rifles for those specific cartridges:

CZ 527 Varmint in 204 Ruger
Savage 12 LRP in 6.5 Creedmoor
Winchester Model 70 Safari Express in 375 H&H Magnum

For the U.S. lower 48, I would agree, and I have bolt-actions and autoloaders to hunt with in all those chamberings ...

Where the selection changes is if Alaska and/or Africa are likely hunting destinations.

In Ak., I might substitute the .35 Whelen or my old BRNO .375 H&H for the '06 in the above battery, especially when you factor in the populations of large aggressive bruins and feisty moose.

In Africa, my '.22 rimfire' would be some make of CZ in .223, followed by my 300H&H Mag as the 'all-around' cartridge, followed by my .404 Jeffery for the Big Stuff.

Remington 12 gauge wingmaster
Remington 700 in .270
Marlin Golden boy 39A .22

Very true, especially if you interpret the OP's query as asking only for three center-fire rifle/cartridge combinations.

When you factor in at least ONE .22 rimfire rifle for squirrels and such, and at least ONE general purpose 12ga shotgun (possibly with spare barrels of different lengths) for whatever you'd hunt with a shotty, it would be hard to justify a 'hunting battery' without them.

Strictly centerfire, excluding the .22LR I could be quite happy with just my .223s, .308s, and .300WMs.

.223

.308

.300 WM

I updated the OP to be a little more clear.  I also don't think a .22 and and a shotgun are both a necessity.

A 12 gauge shotgun, 243 Winchester, and 375 H&H cover pretty much everything you could absolutely hunt.  12 gauge shotgun for birds and small game, 243 for varmints and deer size game, then 375 H&H for anything bigger than deer.

.223. Varmints up to deer. And I can down load with light bullets and blue dot to near 22LR numbers
Bullet weight choices from 30 to 95 gr

.300 magnum. Deer to bears and large plains game.
Bullet weight choices from 110 to 220 gr

375 H&H for stuff that doesn't take kindly to being hunted
Bullet choices from 250-350 gr

To each their own, my friend.  What works for one person won't always work for others.  For me it'd work perfectly fine for any hunting I'd need to do

One shotgun?!?!?  And it has to be a 12ga?!?!?  No 22?!?!?

Admittedly, I myself couldn't choose one shotgun, I have three (but for different purposes).  But they are all 12 gauge 3.5"

I’m limited to straight wall for deer in Ohio so for me it is...

45-70 (deer)
.308 (coyote)
12 gauge (bird/squirrel/everything else)

Could replace the .308 with a .223 AR but I love hunting with my Browning X-bolt.

I also love squirrel hunting with a .22.

If I didn’t have to use straight wall I would prob use 30-06 and not use my .308 for anything. Anymore I don’t deer hunt with a gun though. I much prefer a compound bow.

7.62mm/.308
105mm for big bad stuff (155mm going to take a crew)

Yep, I hear ya.

If you're stuck in a 'straight-cartridge-only' state for hunting deer, that complicates the choice under the O.P.'s criteria.  Whereas in states that don't prohibit or restrict centerfire cartridges as to certain species, you have more latitude in choosing only three.
