If you had to only select three guns/caliber for hunting that could cover all your needs, what calibers would they be in?
For me: 204 Ruger 6.5 Creedmoor 375 H&H Magnum |
|
22
223 30-06 These would cover anything I'll ever hunt. (Don't let my wife see this though) |

If I could only keep 3 of my long guns:
541T .22lr 12GA 870 Magnum Savage 111 in 30-06 |

Benelli Nova 12 ga.
16" .223 AR with Vortex 3-15x 20" 6.5 Creedmoor with Vortex 5-25x |

416 Rigby
30/06 257 Roberts AI Since a gun would be defined as a firearm ie serial numbered receiver I would choose Sauer 202 with barrels in: 22/250 243 25/05 6.5x55 7x64 270 308 30-06 8x57 9.3x62 Spare magnum faced bolt 7mm Mag 300 Win Mag 338 Win Mag 375 H&H 416 Rem Mag 458 Lott I would also have additional barrels rechambered. 25-05 Rechambered to 257 Weatherby 6.5x55 rechambered to 264 Win Mag 270 rebored and rechambered to 338-06 AI 8x57 rechambered to 8mm Rem mag 2nd gun would be a Ruger 10/22 3rd would be an FN FAL para |

That'll be for elk, moose, or bear if I ever decide to do that. |

My three gun battery right now is a 19 rifle battery.
It was 40 but I trimmed heavily. My three most used right now is 223,35 Rem, and 35 Whelen. North East guy so lots of trees and close shots. I’m going to trim more but it’s hard. |

In Ak., I might substitute the .35 Whelen or my old BRNO .375 H&H for the '06 in the above battery, especially when you factor in the populations of large aggressive bruins and feisty moose. In Africa, my '.22 rimfire' would be some make of CZ in .223, followed by my 300H&H Mag as the 'all-around' cartridge, followed by my .404 Jeffery for the Big Stuff. |
|
Right now my big medicine is a 350 Rem mag 673 bolt action.
Don’t think I’m ever going after the big five so I don’t thing I need anything bigger. I don’t shoot much stuff anymore with the 22lr. Being in the east and hunting in the hills my pumps in 35 Rem and 35 Whelen go out hunting most. I have eight different levers in some interesting calibers but I have never taken one out in the woods. For most guys I don’t think three guns cut it. |

I could hunt everything I like to pursue with the following, if I had to pick 3 of my hunting guns and give up the rest:
Remington 12 gauge wingmaster Remington 700 in .270 Marlin Golden boy 39A .22 |

View Quote My shotgun battery stands at 20 and it ain’t moving except up. I only met one guy who hunted all over the world and only owned one rifle. That was a 30-06. He killed all North American game with that rifle. When he went overseas he rented a rifle. I’m too much of a gun nut for that. My accountant went to Africa three years ago for the third time and didn’t bring a rifle. He loved walking off the plane with just his duffle. |

.223. Varmints up to deer. And I can down load with light bullets and blue dot to near 22LR numbers
Bullet weight choices from 30 to 95 gr .300 magnum. Deer to bears and large plains game. Bullet weight choices from 110 to 220 gr 375 H&H for stuff that doesn't take kindly to being hunted Bullet choices from 250-350 gr |

I’m limited to straight wall for deer in Ohio so for me it is...
45-70 (deer) .308 (coyote) 12 gauge (bird/squirrel/everything else) Could replace the .308 with a .223 AR but I love hunting with my Browning X-bolt. I also love squirrel hunting with a .22. If I didn’t have to use straight wall I would prob use 30-06 and not use my .308 for anything. Anymore I don’t deer hunt with a gun though. I much prefer a compound bow. |

Whereas in states that don't prohibit or restrict centerfire cartridges as to certain species, you have more latitude in choosing only three. |
