Currently I alternate between a trucker hat (cool but not enough sun protection) and my old military Bonnie hat (too hot).

What are good suggestions to get the sun off my ears and neck and keep fairly cool?

An old school straw cowboy hat... There is a reason they are made the way they are.

The boonie soaks up a lot of sweat.

A wide brim straw hat is great for a day of drinking at the pool or all day in the sun.

A straw lifeguard/field worker hat is also good.

I'm now going with a sun hoody year round.  In summer and shoulder seasons, often in conjunction with a baseball hat.  In the winter, throwing a 1/4 or 1/2 zip thermal top over it, sometimes with a neck buff.

I'll wear the hood under or over helmets, and unlike a watch cap, I can't drop it off a cliff or along a trail.

Either a light straw hat or a $1 cotton bandana held in place with a ball cap. Same as I've always done.

I use a ball cap and sunscreen, but outside of that it would be a Resistol straw hat.  I use it sometimes in the summer when we are kayaking too.

See what the local lawn care guys are wearing. Roofers too. They live in the sun all days, they know what works.
Around here I see a lot of broad brim straw hats and face masks.
