I'm in the market for a thermal monocular for hog hunting. Only experience I have with thermal is using my buddy's Pulsar thermal binoculars, but those are way out of my price range. Looking for a recommendation around $1000 or less. Ranges we hunt are 200 yards and under.

Thanks

All I know of in that range is the FLIR Scout. Pretty sure Leupold discontinued the LTO but I heard it wasn't very good anyway.

I agree The leupold was disappointing. But the FLIR is pretty decent.

Thanks. Starting to think I need to up my budget some. Just wanting something I can use when my buddy and me split up as he has a pair of Pulsar thermal binoculars which are great, but way out of my range.

Running a FLIR breach.

Ride around under NV, scan pastures with the monocular.

It does pretty fair.

I'm about to sell my pulsar xq23v monocular for sale within the week. I wanna get another thermal rifle scope.
I love it for scanning, but I'm gonna use my second scope on a qd mount for that.

This monocular is great and I paid $1,700 3 years ago. I'll take around $1,200.

Just my experience..... I had the flir scout tk and it sucked, returned it and tried another one and it sucked too, so it wasn't just a bad unit.

I picked up a used Sig Echo 1 within that price range. Nothing fancy, but so far, I'm satisfied.

Be careful man!  I decided to finally get a thermal scope and I was going to spend $2000 (that's a lot of money to spend at a time for me).  Then I started looking and for just a few hundred more you can get something quite a bit better.  Then a few hundred more than that you can get some next level shit.  Next thing you know I'm out 4300 dollars  And I'm still in the budget tier of things.

But having said that, why not look for a thermal scope?  Hogsters and rattlers are pretty compact and can be used as a scanner but you can also attach it to your gun and shoot with it.  I'm not sure how much you REALLY need to spend to get out to 200 yards, but I'd look into it!

Yeah that’s the same problem that got me into this unit recently 😂.

But I also agree with your comment about the Hogster

generally around 300-500 you get the 120 line units. they do work but kinda suck. then around 1200-1500 you get the 256/300 line units not bad resolution and what you should look for in your price range. next step up is the 384 line stuff around 2000-3500, and then from $4K+ is the 640 line units.

I have a cheap AGM asp 160 thats ok for close range scanning. wide field of view, recently got a flir 300 line unit. the resolution is nocticably better but what really surprised me is the range. this thing will resolve planes off in the horizon. the AGM only sees a max of 200-300 yards and has a hard time seeing much heat past maybe 100-150. down side is the flir is heavy and eats batteries. I run RCR123's

I bought a $400 AGM TM160 and a $1000 AGM TM384 from Amazon a couple years ago , the TM160 was returned for a refund. It wasn't worth keeping in my opinion.

AGM Micro TM384 vs TM25-384 Cows 100 to 700 yards

I'd be curious of your thoughts on that device.

If you can swing it just get one of the AGM rattlers then you can shoot with it too instead of just scan.
