LOL, catfishing this am, and son catches a carp.

" What's all this white stuff?"
Well son, it's spawning season, and that's a male.
Think he likes you.

" Aaggggghhhh!!!"

The fish got so excited about being caught he just came all over himself.

I think I would have a different reaction.

As a kid, spent much of the late 60s, and early 70s targeting them.
I'd punch a few nail holes in a can or two of whole corn and toss them where I was going to fish the next day, the evening before. Corn on a hook next morning. Caught plenty and broke my share of Sears fiberglass rods, LOL.

Haven't caught one on purpose in 40 years.
Few months ago, my other son caught one catfishing. Said he had a blast.

So me made up some carp rigs, strange gear, and jello, panko, corn bait and got after them.

Forgot how much fun they are.

And still caught enough cats, we just gorged on fish tacos.

I shudder to think.

LOL, boy showed great restraint, his usually response is sudden and excessive violence!

He actually semi- gently tossed it back in the river.

When I was a kid, people used to fish for carp using dough balls as bait.

Ethnic folks would eat them, but we never did.

Same. As a kid, I got called names for even fishing for them.
My Dad had a dog in the 30s that LOVED fish.
Till he baked and gave it a carp.
Said it never touched fish again.

I tried it a few times. Enough spice and beer, and I could swallow a bite.

My brother said he had some smoked that was tolerable

My dad told me that you need to take out the "mud vein" but I never cut one open to see what he meant.

When the river floods here, after it recedes there are carp trapped in the  pools in the low spots.

Local archers congregate and shoot them with arrows.

Carp spawn time is bow fish time.
