Last weekend I went to summerize and take out my pontoon with a 140 Zuk.
It lives on a lift, and when i went to start it there was no water shooting out of the pee hole. Pulled that to make sure it didn't have trash in it, and it was clean. Then pulled the thermostat and and it didnt look like any water was circulating. The impeller is 3 years old, and i know it need to be replaced, but was running 100% last October. Any ideas of what it might be? I wouldnt think the impeller would just die. Poured marine anti-freeze through the washout valve in October. |

Clean the mud dauber nest out of the pee hole. Run a soft copper wire up it as far as you can. I always put a piece of tape over any hole that a dauber might find and use as a nest in my equipment in the off season.

Did you put ''ears'' on it when you checked for flow? Doesn't that unit have a thermostat?

Replace the impeller, reseal the unit.
Don't run it. You will suck a piece of the impeller or whatever blockage, into the engine block and then you have a disaster...as you now have to start disassembling the block to find the thing you sucked up into it. |

You are due for an impeller but you can try blowing some
compressed air back up the pee tube. Sometimes the tube itself is clear, but there is corrosion buildup in the fitting the pee tube hooks to. ETA - Oh, if you ran it without the thermostat and there wasn't water gushing out of the thermostat "hole" then the impeller is shot or something else going on. |

Replaced the original impeller on my dad's boat last summer.
It's a 97 model. Unless you run salt and or shallow water they last much longer than people think. His was still limber and in good shape. |

If it has long skinny blades like a starfish, it will go 3ish years if you don't run it dry or pump a bunch of sand/mud through it. You guys running impellers longer are on borrowed time. |

View Quote I have gone through gravel and glacial silt. Will change it this year. OP I have had times where my 140 gets a bubble in the engine and not pump. Takes a bit to get it going. |

Hooked a waterhose from the house to the flushing port. Water was circulating fine, but when i started it, nothing again. I guess this confirms impeller. (Weve had 3” of rain since 6am so forgive my trashy water)

In that picture it shows it peeing. |

OP doesn't say if the engine is running. I'm going to assume
it isn't and it's peeing because of the water pressure from the hose. |

Just check the damned impeller.
It's a boat, ..... |

I thought I had a problem with my 140 and 9.9. Neither were peeing at startup after sitting all winter. I took them to the shop where no problems were found. Try revving it up a bit.

View Quote I sure hope he replaced that impeller at 14:00. It had quite a "set" to the blades. Seems strange it had a coating of grease in it like he had it apart before hand and was just going to leave that old impeller in there. Customers ask all the time if I can just inspect the impeller. I tell them that if I inspect it, you have already paid the labor to change it minus the cost of the impeller itself. |

View Quote This. Not a big boat motor guy myself, but years ago, my dads 50 quit peeing after winter storage. Rubber impeller was in several fragments inside the pump. It was old and we figured water in the pump froze and busted the impeller blades up. |
