Yep, this week, a Palamino SS1251 Badlands package substitute the roof rack for an AC unit. About the same living space as my boat so we're use to that but the systems are way more complicated. I'm still learning those. Besides the usual stove and sink, its got 3 way fridge and freezer, Girard instant hot water heater, shower and head, heat, 4 speed max fan, AC, scissor entry steps, Tork lift camper jacks, Tork Lift top lift, Shurflo water pump, 110 watt solar panel and controller, two deep cycle batteries, convertible dinette, and full size queen bed. Its even has a bluetooth usb stereo. I upgraded the truck to the Tork Lift system and debating on air bags. It only lowers my bed by about 1.5" so doable as is but the air bags could help a little. Dry weight was 1,700lbs so leaves me 1,100 lbs of payload capacity. No microwave but then the absolutely least used item on our boat is the microwave. They're just totally impractical unless plugged into a 30 amp service. I'll take a microwave is I want one. There's plenty of shelf space. I will add an inverter and debating on what size now, probably no more than 300 watts. New genny, Champion 2500 inverter is due to be delivered today.
Decision process on this was tough. Wife's only insistence was it have a restroom so it came down to a hard top or pop up. After researching the crap out of this, we went with a pop us for the lower height, more room per pound, slightly better driving especially in a cross wind, and of course, better off road capability. When done, it will be setup for full on 30 amp camp, dry camp not anything external, or 20 amp plug in with just an extension cord. Heat, fridge, hotwater, water pump, are 12v and propane. Tanks are a tad small, about three days, but on long trips we'll augment that by pulling a small trailer or front hitch. I haven't decided on that yet.
Its pretty much use a remote, raise or lower the camper to drive the truck in or out. With two people, one a spotter, its about as easy as it sounds. With one, its a chore and takes some time. Fabric part is nylon so to lower the top its put the Max fan on high and that sucks the canvas in. There's enough room however to use all but the cab over with the top down. Wife can stand upright with the top down. That means you can go in, have lunch, take a nap, make coffee etc. without popping up.
Construction is aluminum frame and dense foam insulation so should last quite awhile even if it develops a leak. Canvas is replaceable, slip on top and bottom then zip and velcro the sections.
There's a ton to sort out but I'm working on it.
