Interesting idea proposed Here

Tubes, wicks and lamp oil commonly available.  1/2" approx 12.5 mm.

Tubes also make excellent air-tight containers for many items, including many types of batteries.  Most tubes very stout.

Submitted for consideration.

Those tubes are basically indestructible by anything that wouldn't wreck you in an accident.
I am worling on a can that uses those tubes.

That looks messy, unless you handle it with tweezers.

That guy has some good videos, and an interesting "mini series" of him role playing an early American settler

I would like to see if you could light it with a firesteel

IDK, and author didn't try it.  I reckon mixing-in some more volatile fuel along with the lamp oil might do, but I haven't tried it--yet.

Concur that making these things easily ignitable with a ferro rod is highly useful.

Probably you can find them in many places by searching for “soda preform“

Here are some on Amazon:

He says at about the 2:55 time in the video that it needs an open flame to light it.

That’s a very impressive firestarter. I wish it had a longer burn time and was 1/4th the size, but that is still some very good innovation.

Wish I came up with that idea

I put mini survival kits together using unformed soda bottle tubes.  They were well received.

The tubes are very sturdy and aren't going to break or crack unless you smash them with a rock.

If you have any friends that homebrew thier own beer you've likely got access to the preform tubes. White Labs brand yeast comes in those tubes.

Most of the "unblown bottle" (soda bottle preforms on amazon linked above) tubes are more-or-less indestructible, and usually come with typical and replaceable) plastic soda bottle caps.  Other tubes, maybe not so much.

Multiple water- and air-tight uses.  Highly useful items.
