I did notice more than usual 'tuner fish' for some reason.

I had 2 POTA QSO's today; one in RI, the other outside Toronto. RI was on 20 meters, the other on 40 meters.

I heard their 'QRZ' gave my call and boom they came right back to me via phone.

I picked up a Cyber Monday Eberlestock Switchblade for POTA. Looks like it's going to be pretty ideal for the 891. Will post pics when I get it set up.

Quick activation. Was on for about 40 min. Many of those contacts was me hunting.

I heard one today set up less than 10 miles from me. He was on 20 meters activating a park and he was 10 over S9.

I thought about dropping down to 5 watts and giving him a call, but he was pretty busy with calls from all over the country.

It would be been amusing to talk less than 10 miles on 20 meters. LOL

You should've. I got a park to park within the same park one time while camping.

groundwave totally counts

....and is not uncommon, depending on where you activate POTA

I always try it a few calls. Have had some success too. One of these days I'm gonna check propagation and do an entire 2m activation.

That post I did a while back on the mountain was a POTA and all of my 10 initial contacts were 2M FM.

I’m not in the photo but one of the 2 is a fellow member here.

Here in NOVA I've been hearing SOTA or POTA activations on 2m calling almost every weekend. They have no problem quickly getting QSOs.

Unfortunately it's flat as can be here so 2m going any impressive distance is rare. Unless you can get on a building, bridge or airplane.

We need someone here to make a tethered drone that can actually lift some weight. Having the power source on the ground should free it up to haul plenty of antenna and coax.

Could you run DC power and RF through the same copper?

I use a wrist-rocket slingshot, 12lb fishing line and a sinker

ZINGGGG  over the tree, then use the fishing line to hoist up some stronger twine

pretty quick to setup my QRPKITS 20/40 dipole

IDK maybe. Someone much smarter with me will have to figure that out.

Always thought that it would be cool to have a tethered drone lift a 2/440 and a 2.4g antenna 200' in the air and stay aloft  for hours at a time then reel it all back in.

Another good POTA day

every QSO was a Park-to-Park

figured out the FT-891 extension cables are the same as my old TS-480HX.

so we ran the FT-891 mobile.  It worked well. the IF DSP is really nice.

Wife found a bald eagle again LOL

The 891 filtering is pretty damn impressive. I need to go activate again. Haven't gone since I got my kilo.

Sent my HAMRS log to POTA and got a reply that the file had an error in it.

we've had HAMRS lock up on an activation months ago, I always log on paper while wife logs on HAMRS ( android )

might be time to shop around for a new POTA logging program.

what do you guys like ?

I use N3FJP on a small windows tablet.  I like it for POTA because I re-arranged the layout of the data fields so I only have the ones I need for POTA and they cycle in the order I prefer as you hit tab.

That said, I had an error once in a submitted log.  I checked everything and couldn't see the issue, so I re-sent the exact same file to my area coordinator, and that time it went through.  I chalked it up to some weird corruption in the email process.  That, or the POTA log entry system was having a bad day.

I had been using HAMRS. But it locked on me during the last 140 of a Kilo. As much as it'll suck, I'm just gonna bring my laptop and log directly into N3FJP.

Had to move frequencies twice yesterday on twenty side band bcz someone lit up 1kc away from my operating freq and made exchanging info very difficult.

Going back out today in spite of it all.

Has anyone else noticed that HAMRS can't figure out how to put DX on the map ?

My wife runs HAMRS while I run the radio, but whenever I get europe or even PR, it doesn't bring up the location when logging, and later fails to drop a pin on the built-in map.

Yeah.

I've pretty much abandoned HAMRS. I almost lost 140 QSOs one afternoon. I just bring my laptop and use N3FJP or paper and transfer later.

Yep I’ve have the same problem.

Think it’s best to take a laptop and run the Program listed above all tho I haven’t done that yet

I’ve been using HAMRS.  I’ve heard lot of reports of it dumping data, but mine has been spot on.

You guys doing POTA in GA. Were you on with a YL and another ham from a park that ended in 73? If so, I worked you.

I have a good idea abt who you worked. Husband and wife team. Those two live north of me about twenty miles

ETA: they haven't activated in a week, so maybe it wasn't them.

Agreed. I can pick up stations clearly that don't begin to move the meter as if they are on a digi voice mode, using DSP and a good set of headphones.

If you're talking about the husband and wife N.E. of atlanta, we work them a lot on our activations

...and park-to-park

My wife always mentions the flowery town name when it comes up on the logger

He's really into 10meters, 10-10 club  etc.

I will be doing POTA down and up the Keys M-F on 20M I'm going to try to do at least one activation a day. I brought 100w and a vertical with me, so I should get out. Kinda hoping I pick up an Alaska station backwards.
