Not quite "survival" but... Looking for a high quality, lightweight backpacking tent, cheap?
Big Agnes Fishhook UL2, 3.3lb $179 shipped msrp $399
If you're a member on activejunky you can get 11% cash back!

I got one a couple weeks ago and am very happy with it. It's plenty roomy for (2) 23" pads and roomier than I expected. Tip: the 6oz footprints keep popping up on steep&cheap for $25-28, a tyvek footprint on ebay would run me $20 and be a couple oz heavier.

I didn't notice the price (I don't eat them) but I did notice that MH had changed the packaging.  Wonder if that has anything to do with it?

I just picked up a bunch of the MH from Walmart. They were hanging on pegs marked $3/ea but rang up for $4.88. I didn’t feel like arguing with the checkout girl. The display area was pretty picked over and I bet some items were on the wrong pegs. Either way not a bad deal. Going to toss in on the emergency supplies shelves.

From the wallmart sale. I think it ended up being 65 bucks or so which seemed way high to me.  I guess even sales add up in quantity.  Did I do OK? This was my first time buying mountain house NOT in #10 cans so I wasn't sure about the value.

Danner has a pretty good sale going right now on select items. I get an email when they send things to their "breakroom" but I didn't get one for this, so I though I would share:

Maxpedition Gyrfalcon on closeout, $130....

This is like a slightly larger Falcon 3 backpack with an internal frame, padded and ventilated back and waist belt. One of the pockets converts to a belt pouch. Very feature rich, have had mine for about two weeks. I have several Falcon 2's that are great fast and light packs for on the move activities (like running or riding a motorcycle) but one thing I didn't like was that they could be slightly larger for long weekends when I am traveling because I could only get two summertime changes of clothes inside, plus the usual toiletries and laptop. This pack fixes that, still has a thin, low profile, and is airline carry-on compliant.

Seriously good deal on a bulletproof pack you'll use for years. Only one color available at this price, it looks darker and richer in person than the photo representation.

Don't be fooled about the quantity getting low.  These have been out there for a year now.  These are low sodium MREs.  They all have brown sugar pop tarts, crackers, jelly and low salt entree.  I have had all of the entrees and they are all edible but I would highly recommend a lot of hot sauce regardless of which one you are eating.  Also have heaters and I think I had about 95% success rate with them.  Only a couple times did they not heat the meal up enough.

Amazon has the Baofeng UV-5R5 handheld dual band Ham transceiver on a lightning sale today for $26.99.

It might not be my first choice for a Ham radio but it would be OK for a backup or a cheap way to decide if Ham radio is for you (so long as you don't transmit without a license).

I bought one a year or so ago as a backup. It does the job.

If you are looking for Pelican cases, they are on sale today (12-27) at Amazon.com

For example, the Pelican 1400 is $49.99. This will hold 1-2 pistols plus mags. The regular price is $71. Searching Google, the only one I find that comes close in price is a used one on EBay for $46.

$50 rebate on Mountain House 14 day emergency pack.  On Amazon for $231, minus $50 is $181.  Equals out to about $4.31 a pack, if I remember my math right.

$10 off the $57.98 until midnight. Free shipping if you have Prime. I just ordered one and my final price was $51.34 including tax. They don't show the $10 off until you put it in your cart and checkout.

I have a few of the 36 inch ones and they are well made. A 42 inch should hold most full size ARs.
