This is the 7th year that my son, brother and I have gone to this spot in Williston, FL. to hunt hogs. My son was 16 and my brother and I had just retired from the  Navy after 24 years. Fast forward to today and my son is a young man of 23 and my brother and I have both put on some weight, him more than I…..lol.

Today was unusually warm even by Florida standards for December. It was a warm 81 degrees. The pigs were out and I had to decide what gun to hunt with. I had a new to me JM 357 Marlin with 158gr Hornady XTP’s I loaded up as well as a new RARR in 300blk with some 110gr VMax loads which were also loaded by me. I chose the 300blk and it did not let me down. This pig walked straight in looking down and gave me the perfect head shot. The 110gr VMax loaded with 19gr IMR 4227 dropped him like a load of bricks. The pressure from the bullet impact bulged both eyes and he was DRT.

My brother was looking for a small meat hog and shot one around 80lbs. It looks small next to him. All in all it was a great day with more great memories made by father ,son and brother.

81* in December? How does it even feel like the Christmas season?

Good for you and yours though! It looks like a great time was had by all.

Nice.  Great way to spend time with family.

I'm jealous you guys in the South get to hunt hogs.  But, I don't really want them here either.

I am blown away how good of a value the RARR are. buddy bought one in 6.5CM for like $600 and was destroying my full custom rem700 in 6mmBR at 1300 yards when it was so windy I just wanted to sit in the truck

Nice!

In the last picture, at first it looked like your brother was holding his hog up by the leg.

Thanks for all the kind comments. I’ll try to answers the questions posed.

The smaller pig was taken with a 300 blk AR15 pistol that I built my brother. It has a 8.3” BA Hanson barrel which is a tack driver. He has killed 3 pigs with it.

As far as the Ruger goes, it is a fantastic rifle for the $499 I paid for it. That gun will have all rounds touching at 50yds with my hand loads, and around .75-1” at 100. I have posted pics of the 100yds groups here before. It is no slouch at 200 either.

The next hunt I will use the Marlin. It shoots around an inch at 50yds with my hand loads and a Holosun 507c red dot. That gun is far better than I thought it would be.

I’m cooking up the back strap for dinner tonight.

Awesome.  300 BO is flexible but that 110gr is super for hunting. Good sized meat hog too.  And that plate is making my mouth water.  Nothing like good southern cooking.

Every year I see your post and every year I'm more jealous!

I've only been hog hunting once... Flew to Texas for a one day hunt and after hunting for over 24hrs I didn't see a single hog.

Looks like you've got it down to a science.

I have the same rifle but I’ve only fired subs out of it.  I may have to duplicate your rounds for next deer season.
