.... I havnt got a bull in a long time , put on many many miles the last few days ,
I love how you can glass a hillside for an hour , turn your head away for
30 seconds turn back - and boom there’s an elk !
- 5x5
- smaller body like a cow
- .28 nosler , 150 grain ttsx , 3135 FPS, 360 yard shot , shot him twice
- Debone and pack out
- two years ago shattered my pelvis into 4 pieces while parachuting in the Army
Long hard road getting back from that (bolted together with titanium) , this was pretty trying getting him out alone
but totally worth it !
Location : western Colorado that’s all you’re gonna get from me !

Thanks

My gunsmith built it up for me :
700 action trued
Lilja fluted 26” .28 nosler
Nightforce nxs 5.5-22
Xtreme hardcore rings and base (I love their rings)
Cerakote burnt bronze
TBAC .338 brake and suppressor - you can use a can to hunt with in Colorado
McMillan carbon fiber stock
CDI bottom metal
AICS mags with modded feed lips for .28 nosler
Timney trigger

I had the flipping hardest time finding brass , finally snagged
Some and loaded up some Barnes ttsx real quick before the hunt
150 grains at 3130 ish FPS , retumbo , started getting pressure
Signs so backed down a little , was shooting about .5 Moa with the Barnes
250 yard zero.

I have the sig kilo 2400 , I uploaded all my data , was only able to
Shoot to 300 before the hunt. So not sure my data and kilo 2400
Are syncing at long range - it called for 2 Moa of elevation adjustment
When I ranged him , and I shot him really high , nearly spined him

I snagged some factory nosler 175 lrab , which shot awesome
And faster too , 3200 FPS , I may try this for a late season cow hunt
I’m going on in December

Thanks man

I had a thread about a cow hunt in New Mexico last year
That I got on , it was a amazing private land hunt for
Vets etc....   I didn’t have to walk at all really , they drove us around
And you get out and shoot, so this was a big deal for me to
See how’d  Id be  post injury and walking/ hiking etc, I had foot drop
To my right leg for crushing my sciatic nerve , which is still
There and I have a limp , but I can manage.

I first hiked in 2 miles and spiked camp at high elevation
But the pressure was insane , so I packed up my shit to try another area
Did see some spikes And some cows though (had a bull tag)

Here are some pics of the high country

Sounds like an awesome rifle, currently waiting on my first custom to be finished.  Tracking on the suppressor use in CO, stationed there and am looking forward to catching some of the OTC Whitetail upon my return from deployment.  I'm always bummed out when I miss hunting seasons due to work requirements.

But again, nice Bull and great looking scenery that you experienced during the hunt.

What type of pack? How far of a packout? And did it preform as you wanted it too?

Badlands pack , it was “ok” , a bunch of the straps on the back
Ripped when I was packing the head out. Seems pretty cheap
Honestly.

I plan on just nutting up and purchasing a mystery ranch.

1.25 mile trip each way - not bad really

OP, on the Range finder and your dope, have you run your loads over a crony? and at different temps? If not you can work around it by  shooting at 2 distances and truing the 2400... It will get you right there..it works for both velocity and for BC...
