Saw that on IG, I don’t think I’d count on 5.56 to put those two down (assuming I’m not slinging hot loaded Barnes TTX).

OTOH, I’m working on a lever gun 44 that I’ll be using for hog hunting. I think it would be PERFECT in this application (assuming hot loads).

Somewhere near you, there are some hog doggers, that are extremely pissed you killed the pigs they’ve been planning to “catch” at the next tournament.  That make it awesome on multiple levels. Any closeups of the cutters? Look like 7+

Interesting.  Most of the hogs around where I hunt them run a lot smaller.  (Hill Country)  200lbs is about the  biggest I've seen for several years. Of course, it's ranch country so not many crops for them to feed on.

Not getting too specific, but what part of the state?

The bigger body weight hogs up here are usually released domestic animals or first breeding. Feral pigs seem to revert quickly to a smaller size like they have a really good genetic survival plan.

When I first saw the pics I thought it was fake.  Up until you laid down next to them. They have a very steady and easy food source to get that big with so little use on the cutters.

I’ve seen some big ones in south texas, but here in the hill country I agree.  Hell, 200# is big enough to be rare around most of the places I’ve seen in this area.

Most likely they been caught, cut, and had the whetted knocked out with a hammer by doggers at some point in their life. Old pigs fight like hell, a lot, and break their cutters.  If you look close at the curls, it’s a give away . Would agree they’ve got a food source readily accessible, but it’s honest probably been in a pen somewhere at some point .  Doggers do this shit all the time, so they can “catch” them for the tournament.  Pigs here, in the wild, don’t get that big , without getting cut, period .  I’m sure somebody has an uncle who’s got a friend that had a neighbor that killed one that weighed 87000 lbs years ago.....

Huge pig no doubt, but been altered by man, just like steers are, for that desired outcome .  Happens pretty regular

When I see pics of hogs that big the first thing that pops into my head is "have the nuts been cut"? When I look at the pics closely they almost always are.

Exactly what I was thinking, were they Barr hogs. For those who don't know, hogs have two functions in life, eating and screwing, once the hogs are caught and castrated, the only thing left for them to do is eat, and that's how they become so damn big. Regardless, what a hell of a hunt.

Tripod advice please. Thermal on the way.  As is a detachable mag 30.06.

Eta: some great shooting.

I almost never use a tripod anymore. I use a monopod and mainly as a walking stick. It’s faster to get into action when you walk up and you can use it to flip sticks and other small debris from your path. Now if I’m watching a large field in the evening and have a LRS I have a tripod with it. If I’m in the blind sometimes I will use the tripod. I also use my monopod to range and steady my binoculars. I use a Vanguard tripod a Stoney Point monopod (I also have the Stoney Point tripod but it’s hardly ever used) and the Caldwell field pod. The Caldwell is alright for the blinds where you are sitting in a chair. And it’s cheap enough to leave with a blind.

If you’re going to be mobile a good pack to carry your tripod is a must have.
