Love it. Marinas and boat ramps can be sources of endless entertainment.

They are entertaining as long as you aren't the one having "issues".

I work at a marina and see it all day everyday and it's even worse on the weekends.

Still, the good outweighs the bad, and some days the scenery is outstanding in more ways than one.

@TN-MadDog

That's a body bag. One of three

that died the night before in a UTV accident. The UTV crashed into the lake and all three

occupants drown.

Usually a torn bellows on the out drive, makes a big hole in the hull and the pumps can't keep up.

That boat had V-drives so there are no bellows. The owner tried to save some $$$

and do the water pump impellers himself. He disconnected the inlet hoses to the pumps

and didn't plug them. He bungeed them up above the water line and went home

to re-build the pumps. The hoses slipped out of the bungees and dropped into the bilge.

There was no way the bilge pumps could keep up with two 1-1/2 inch hoses running full bore.

Boat sank under the marina.

@genesis Yes, it's Saguaro Lake.

Guy was a victim of a hit and run. Ski boat that is "high and dry" in the background wasn't

involved, they just didn't pat attention to the receding water level.

Wow insane,  i keep telling the marina owners I would love to work with them...then I spend time on the lake with these fools, and think...no way

My first impeller....
I had an overheat alarm in the middle of Lake Pontchartrain. Cut the motor and looked back and my bilge pump was running.
After the steam cleared, I saw there was water up to the crank pulley on the 5.7 Mercruiser.  The boat tried to sink itself!
I told the wife and kids to get life jackets and prepare to stand on top of the cabin until help arrived since the lake is barely deeper than my boat is tall.
The outlet house slipped off the impeller housing. Luckily not the input. I fixed it on the water and told sea tow to stand down.
Still have hte scar on a forearm from the manifold.

Didn’t think about it.  We’ve put many hours on it since then, but I hear you.  Damn.   I hate salt.

Eventually it WILL fail. I've rarely see one that was submerged survive very long afterwards.

It seems like it's also somewhat linear as to submersion time vs. life expectancy.

Under overnight? Probably live for a while. Under for a week? Probably won't work at all.

All that goes out the window if the starter has power on it while submerged (no battery switch)

or salt water.

I recommend keeping a starter on hand as well as the 90A "block fuse" that's attached to the

starter solenoid.

ETA-- Science.

The water was just touching the bottom of the crank pulley. If it was under, it was for less than 10 minutes.
So far, absolutely nothing seems amiss.
