I'm looking for advice on what all you guys are using/recommending.

I've got spare blades for farm equipment, spare hand tools, drill bits, equipment parts, raw stock tubing/sheet metal, and so on that I'd like to prevent long term surface corrosion on when stored in an enclosed shop and barns that don't have heating and air so they see temps from 0* to 110* on the extremes. General throughout the year the not to the extremes temp range is 30* to 90* with humidity ranging in the 60-80% range.

I'm looking for a product I can apply one time and not have to reapply or remove until I'm ready to use the items, and preferably something that will hold up/stay effective if the items are moved around from time to time but no intentional effort is made to remove the coating. I've heard stories of cosmoline being intense to remove after several years, which could have some advantages I guess, but if there's something out there that might be a better balance, I'd like to know about it as well.

Items are mostly made from steel, variations of stainless steel, aluminum, chrome plated, nickle plated, cast iron, brass, and zinc (thinking about carburetor parts for example).

I see that this product is out there:

Thoughts?

Thanks

Try LPS 3 or Fluid Film. Both are aerosols.

Coconut oil is a surprisingly good corrosion inhibitor (as the makers of "Frog Lube" may or may not be willing to attest ).

Dollar Tree sells an 8 oz (?) jar of it for $1.00 - or you can buy larger jars for a couple bucks in the cooking oils section of your local grocery market.

I used some bearing grease on a new shovel that I wanted to stay in new condition in my barn.  Worked great, just attracted dirt and whatever was in the air.

RIG is good for the guns, but ordinary grease is more economical for bigger stuff.

Crown Tool & Die saver used it for many years in the Tool & Die industry.

It seems like you want to be able to revert the items to their original state?  If not I don’t know if you can beat paint for corrosion protection and durability.  There are various spray or liquid waxes in solvent, fluid film and similar products.  I’ve had good luck with those on stuff that I didn’t want to paint.

LPS3 is like spray on cosmoline. I have used it with very good results for long term storage of firearms. I've not tested it out in the elements, long term but it is pretty tenacious.

Boeshield T-9  This is an anti rust, lube product developed by Boeing aircraft.  It is available in everything from a spray can to 5 gallon buckets. It is not water removable.  There is a good question and answer about it at the link. https://www.theruststore.com/Boeshield-T-9-Gallon-P5C20.aspx

Do not LOL,

I have been using Alox from LEE mainly be cause it come free, or used to with punch through dies.

I thin it with odorless mineral spirits just enough to spray with a perfume pump spray bottle or any spray type bottle.

Drys in a few hours, two coats and it acts like a super cosmoline encapsulaor, that's more durable.

I had coated steel parts for 20 years stored in very bad areas exposed to moist salty air with no issues.

Project Farm did a comparison on some on youtube regarding car undercoating...

He used steel plates so some of the information might help you.
