Mine is hooked to an AH-4 tuner to a 43' DXE vertical.

Do you guys think the built in tuner could tune a 43' vertical on all bands?

I don't think the built in tuner can handle much more than 3:1. Does that help?

Negative.

From the tuner manual. "The AH-4 is a wide-range antenna tuner capable of matching a 50 ohm feed line to an antenna feed
impedance in the range of 10 to 5,000 ohms."  Far beyond the range of the internal tuner.

AH-4 should be able to do it (if it's like my setup, 80M might be dicey), the 7300 built in tuner -- no way.

If you go into the IC-7300 settings and put the tuner into "Emergency Mode" it will cap your power at 50 watts, but let you tune up to a 10:1 mismatch.

Will it stay at 100 watts if it's under 3:1?

I don't believe so, when the "emergency mode" is enabled, it hard limits the PO to 50w.

Under 3:1 SWR.

yes mine does.  Go too much higher and it will prevent a transmission, I suppose to prevent roasting final internals??

One has to shut the radio off and turn it back on to reset.  At least that is what I did,   I thought my first antenna was supposed to do 80m when I bought it.  I was using the radio tuning feature trying to set tuning across the band.  It will give you a couple steps in the sequence over 3:1 before the lockout.

My IC-7300 will not tune above 3:1 SWR, but in Emergency, mode I have turned up to a 10:1 SWR at about 50 watts output. My friend has an ICOM AH-4 remote tuner and he can tune his tune 43' verticle with no issues.

He did have to put some mix 31 torroids on the control cable to keep the common mode current off the control wire come back into his shack.  YMMV
