ARRL's "Confidentiality vs. Transparency" Emergency: Rescue ARRL With Your Vote This Month!

The rest of us should be talking with our friends in those divisions. ARRL represents every US ham to government and elsewhere, and is the International Secretariat of IARU, representing all hams worldwide. Thus, every ham, everywhere, has a stake in the operation of ARRL, and a right to see this calamity resolved.

In 2016, ARRL had corporate attorneys provide a director and officer code-of-conduct. This code was designed for a for-profit corporate board, and stressed confidentiality, just the wrong thing for a non-profit board that should be representing its members! The ARRL board majority, including every incumbent in this election; voted this code, officially called the ARRL Policy on Board Governance and Conduct of Members of the Board of Directors and Vice Directors,  into the bylaws in January, 2017.

Links to the new Code of Conduct, recommended candidates, and quite a few others are at the link.

Like the NRA, we need to try and take this organization back before trying to replace it.

I manage our local club's FB page.
Bud asked to join.  Didn't know who he was.  So I asked him a couple of questions to make sure he wasn't a spam account because his FB page was new.
Never heard back from him.
Nor would I have appreciated someone that was only going to use it to run for an office.
Not a good first impression.
I don't even know what constitutes a voting member of ARRL.
I've been paying my dues.

Interesting times we live in.  All 5 Director's positions are being challenged,
and some of the challengers are real heavy hitters.  This is a coordinated
effort to change the ARRL.

It was early this year when our Director, Mike Lisenco was doing damage control
at a not so local club meeting.  It was like the opening of The Warriors with
clubs from throughout the region sending reps to hear Cyrus speak.  Mike ran
unopposed last time so we hadn't voted in almost 6 years.
" who would even what this job " Mike lamented.

I like change.

It needs to be changed.  That compromise with the HOA lobby left a very bad taste in my mouth.

And that's before you get into the Fudd nature of everything else the ARRL does.

Here are the results of the ARRL Board of Directors election for the
term of office beginning January 1, 2019:

Ria Jairam 1,292
Mike Lisenco 1,239

I’d like to thank you for allowing me to serve as your Director for
the past 6 years.  It has been an honor and a privilege.

Hmm.  I figured Ria was the least qualified of all of the challengers;
cleaning house.

I have been up in the air deciding to renew my ARRL for a few months now.  I've been following the transparency debate for coming up a year.

It seems that with the results of the elections that the members have spoken and put in a board that is (more) pro-transparency.

This makes my decision to renew a bit easier.

Infighting is theater, it's the ineffectiveness I'm concerned with.  There's a new sheriff in town, I'll sign on for a year and see how that plays out.

After looking through the ARRL financial statement I was disgusted.
I'd consider re-joining only if they offered a digital only access at the blind rate.
That printed QST went into the recycling bin with the rest of the junk mail.
Even the FCC moved into the modern era cutting printing and mailing of your license.

why does that cost $50 a year?

I meant I wish I knew why it was $50 instead of $20 or $25

I didn't renew for a year or so after they compromised with the HOA crap.

There's a new guy in charge now, so I'm thinking about re-uping this year.  But if they're not going to represent amateurs in general any better than the NRA represents gun owners, they can go bankrupt too for all I care.

I can empathize with this. I should have gone with the digital version of QST as well, I have a stack on the floor that I'd hate to toss out but nobody to give them to.
